Patrick
Many
years
ago
David
inquired,
Is
the
young
man
Absalom
safe?
(2
Sam
18:29).
The
question
was
asked
of
the
messengers
who
were
reporting
on
the
battle
between
Davids
men
and
those
of
his
rebellious
son
Absalom.
His
question
expresses
heart
felt
concern
for
his
son
even
though
Absalom
had
broken
his
heart.
David
is
not
alone
in
his
agony
over
the
welfare
of
his
children.
Many
godly
parents
have
spent
sleepless
nights
worrying
over
the
spiritual
condition
of
their
babies.
Often
as
parents,
we
find
ourselves
overwhelmed
with
grief
over
the
idea
that
we
have
in
some
way
contributed
to
the
misguided
behavior
of
our
children.
Sometimes
we
beat
ourselves
up
wishing
we
could
roll
back
the
clock
and
do
things
differently.
It
has
been
my
observation
that
often
parents
critique
themselves
far
too
harshly.
At
the
end
of
the
day,
our
children
are
free
moral
agents.
We
can
do
our
level
best
to
protect
them,
guide
them
and
teach
them
in
the
way
they
should
go
only
to
see
them
reject
our
efforts.
On
the
other
hand,
it
is
a
travesty
to
see
parents
who
fail
to
take
every
measure
possible
to
ensure
the
well-being
of
their
offspring!
It
was
heart-warming
to
see
our
young
men
doing
such
an
outstanding
job
leading
us
in
worship
this
past
Lords
Day.
Their
talent
and
knowledge
was
extraordinary.
Given
a
few
more
years
to
mature
and
an
opportunity
to
exercise
their
talent
leads
us
to
believe
that
there
are
champions
of
the
faith
in
the
making.
Our
hats
are
off
to
those
among
us
who
work
so
tirelessly
to
groom
these
young
ones.
It
is
wonderful
to
see
and
know
that
many
of
our
youth
are
able
to
participate
in
the
Lads
to
Leaders
Convention
this
very
weekend.
We
are
excited
that
later
this
month
we
will
see
many
of
them
participating
in
our
annual
Bible
Bowl.
Our
youth
group
is
very
active
and
those
leading
them
are
doing
a
tremendous
job
in
providing
leadership
for
them.
What
about
you?
Are
you
taking
advantage
of
these
opportunities
to
encourage
your
child
to
follow
the
Lord?
Are
you
leading
them
to
participate
in
Sunday
morning
and
Wednesday
Bible
study
periods?
Do
you
ever
pray
with
them?
Do
you
read
from
Gods
Word
and
encourage
them
to
be
familiar
with
the
account
of
Scripture
regarding
the
powerful
influence
young
people
can
be
in
the
world?
As
you
ponder
these
and
related
questions,
let
me
challenge
you
with
this
stirring
question,
Is
your
child
safe?
