REFLECTIONS

- Teacher will introduce the

game of ultimate Frisbee to
the class. Will ask students
prior to informing on what
some rules they may
already know about
Ultimate.
Rules:
The field is
rectangular shaped
with end zones (20-15
yds. at each end.
Dimensions = 70 yds
by 40 yds.

Game starts with the

defensive team
throwing off to the
offensive team. (Each
team has 7 players)

1 pt is scored if the
offensive team
completes a pass in
the defensive teams
end zone. (Use teacher
or student demos.)

Players can advance

the Frisbee by passing
it to teammates.
Cannot run with disk,
must release the disk
after 10 sec. (For
teaching purposes,
teachers [referees] will
keep count of
seconds.)

Possession changes to
opposite team if
Frisbee is dropped,
blocked, thrown out of
bounds, intercepted or
held for too long.

- What worked well here

was the use of students
and teacher demos. The
students were able to see
how the Frisbee should
be thrown and caught
from numerous angles.
They were also presented
with easy rules that were
also related to previous
games that they have
played.(Speedball)

No contact is allowed
between players (fouls
occur when players
make contact with
others, play is
restarted where the
foul occurred.)

- Teacher will then explain

the nature of the game,
how in most Ultimate
Frisbee games there are no
referees. Players in the
game are responsible for
their own calls, and that the
spirit of the game calls for
sportsmanship and fair
play.
- Teacher will the explain
safety of the game when
played indoors. (Students
need to be aware of
bleachers/walls, other
students, Frisbees when
they are thrown, and if
sitting on the bleachers,
being aware of Frisbees
possible flying into the
stands.

Activity 1: Introduction
to the backhand
(standard) toss:
- Teacher will introduce the
main throw used in

- In this activity what

worked well was having
the students throw at a
stationary target so that
they had a feel for the
grip of the Frisbee.
- What could have gone
better was having the
students move and pass
like they would in a game
situation.

Shoulder of the
hand your throwing
to will face your
target.
Bring disc towards
body, keeping it
level.
Step with same foot
as throwing arm,
towards target,
extending your arm
and snapping wrist.

- Some students will not be

good at throwing and
hitting target/players.
Explain factors such as
release point, angle of disc,
arm movements can affect
where the Frisbee goes.
- Teacher will have
students break into small
groups and practice tossing
back in forth to each other.

Activity 2: Passing to a
target.
- Teacher will then break
students into lines and then
will have them try and
throw the Frisbee through
hoops hanging on
basketball hoops to get a
feel for aiming at a target.

Activity 3: Passing with

partners (farther
distance).
- Teacher will have
students line up in 4-6
lines, depending on size of
class, facing the opposite

- In the conclusion what

we were able to do was
go over certain strategies
that could be
implemented during
game play. Some of these
included moving to open
plays and making certain
runs or cuts to open space
or away from the
defender.
