FULFILLING A
COMMUNITY NEED
The U.S. Labor Department has heralded manufacturing as
the industry that could provide one of the biggest boosts
to the U.S. economy, with the potential to add hundreds of
thousands of new jobs annually.
And yet, the Labor Department also reports that there are
more than 500,000 manufacturing jobs unfilled in the
United States. The manufacturing industry is desperate
for qualified employees to fill these jobs, which often are
well-paid, highly technical positions.
With the Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Initiative,
Metropolitan State University of Denver has stepped up to
supply the employees to meet this demand.
This is important to our state and national economies,
says MSU Denver President Stephen Jordan. If this is
where the workplace is going, dont we have a responsibility
as educators to supply the people who can work in these
industries? This initiative will have one of the single
biggest impacts on this region that this institution has
ever had.
ENVISIONING
POSSIBILITIES
MSU Denver has partnered with industry leaders to design
a groundbreaking program that will revolutionize aviation,
aerospace and advanced manufacturing education in
Colorado by integrating the study of aviation and aerospace
science; industrial design; civil, mechanical and electrical
engineering technology; computer science and computer
information systems; and business management.
These disciplines will collaborate in a state-of-the-art
Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building, providing
students with the curriculum, technology and labs necessary
to give them a highly experiential, relevant education.
With the Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building and
Institute for Advanced Manufacturing, MSU Denver will
educate the most skilled, workforce-ready professionals
available to meet the advanced manufacturing needs of
the state of Colorado, particularly in the areas of aviation
and aerospace.
