January 1st 2010

One common standard in Europe only

EN 14439
Target of the development of the standard was the necessity to get one
Europe wide valid standard for all new tower cranes with:
minimum requirements for
-noise emissions
-ergonomics
-comfort for users, riggers and crane operators
etc., with:

defined and more realistic wind conditions out of operation (storm)

for the first time standardized regulations for safe climbing of tower
cranes.

FEM 1.005: European Wind Zones

Attention:
The effective wind zone for each
tower crane location has to be
checked!
Exposed locations like:
Wind Zone
C
[covers A and B]

- mountain tops
- natural forms e.g. valleys
- local particularities
. like channels caused by buildings
or other anomalies, may cause the
necessity of the use of other wind
zones!
Copyright Liebherr 2006

The crane user is responsible for the

clarification and specification of the
correct wind zone and recurrence
interval for a tower crane!
