Refill instructions for use with Canon BCI-21 & BCI-24 ink jet cartridges.

BOTTOM FILL & BOTTOM FILL INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANON BCI-21 / BCI-24 BLACK & COLOUR
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU REFILL CARTRIDGE BEFORE COMPLETELY RUNNING OUT OF INK.
SPONGE MATERIAL MAY DRY IF LEFT WITHOUT INK FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME.
BOTTOM FILL for BCI-21/24 COLOUR
1) Set your cartridge down on a secure level surface on one side. Do not touch ink exit holes.
2) At the bottom of the colour cartridge you will see three ink exit holes.
3) Fill syringe to 4cc with desired colour. Cartridge capacity per colour is 5cc max.
4) Hold the syringe slightly above the sponge material on the bottom of the cartridge.
Make sure you are over desired colour to refill and very lightly apply pressure to the
syringe so that 1 or 2 drops of ink comes out and falls onto sponge material.
IMPORTANT: Never come into contact with sponge material. DO NOT allow syringe
tip to actually touch or push on sponge material as damage to the sponge may occur.
Ink will be slowly absorbed into the sponge.
5)Repeat dispensing ink until sponge material no longer accepts ink, or you have
depleted the syringe of ink. Allow to sit several minutes before putting back into printer.
6) Insert cartridge to printer and conduct a print head clean and several test prints to get ink flowing
BOTTOM FILL for BCI-21/24 BLACK
1) Set your cartridge down on a secure level surface on one side. Do not touch ink exit holes.
2) At the bottom of the black cartridge you will see an ink exit hole.
3) Fill syringe to 7cc with black ink. Cartridge capacity for black is 9cc
4) Hold the syringe slightly above the sponge material on the bottom of the cartridge.
Make sure you are over desired colour to refill and very lightly apply pressure to the
syringe so that 1 or 2 drops of ink comes out and falls onto sponge material.

TOP FILL for BCI-21 / BCI-24 COLOUR
1) Set your cartridge down on a secure level surface on one side. Do not touch ink exit holes.
2) At the bottom of the colour cartridge you will see three ink exit holes. Cover the Ink Exit holes
with a piece of adhesive tape, masking tape or similar.
3) At the top of the cartridge you will see the cartridge "CAP". The cap is the inset
piece that is thinner than the base of the cartridge.
Method One: You can remove the cap by taking a pair of pliers and wrap around
the cap. Applying pressure snap the cap off the base.
Method Two: An alternative method of removing the cap is to take a knife or other
sharp object and wedge in between cap and base. Force the knife into the cartridge
to separate the cap from the base.
4) Use a 3/32 or 3mm twist drill bit or a similar size self tapping screw and enlarge the
vent holes as shown to the lower right.
5) Fill syringe to 4cc with desired colour. Cartridge capacity per colour is 5cc. Insert
syringe into desired colour chamber and very lightly apply pressure to the plunger.
Slowly inject ink into cartridge keeping in mind that you are injecting into a sponge.
6) When the sponge material becomes saturated a small amount of ink, or if you are
Injecting slow enough a small amount of bubbles will appear at the top of the cartridge.
Cease injecting and wait a few seconds. Slowly remove the syringe.
7) Rinse syringe with warm water . You may repeat the process for the two colours
remaining. Allow to sit several minutes before putting back into printer carriage.
8) Make sure that the cartridge is thoroughly wiped clean before reapplying cap.
9) To reapply cap, place on top of cartridge and use either scotch tape or other securing
adhesive tape to set the cartridge cap in place.
10) Before inserting into printer remove the tape at the bottom of the cartridge.
11) Insert cartridge to printer and conduct a print head clean and several test prints to get ink flowing.

TOP REFILL for BCI-21/24 BLACK


1) Set your cartridge down on a secure level surface on one side. Do not touch ink exit holes.
2) At the bottom of the colour cartridge you will see three ink exit holes. Cover the Ink Exit holes with a piece of
adhesive tape, masking tape or similar.
3) At the top of the cartridge you will see the cartridge "CAP". The cap is the inset piece that is thinner than
the base of the cartridge.
