Brief Introduction to few Social Organizations

Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (VKA)


Organization working for forest dwelling populations of the country. Established by Shri
Ramakant Keshav Deshpande in 1952, this organization is aiding tribals who are untouched by
modern day developments to get integrated into the national mainstream. VKA also educating
tribals to survive the onslaught of illegal Christian missionary activities with foreign funding
forcing tribals into conversion.
Vidya Bharati
is an organization focusing education in primary and secondary levels. Established in 1977,
Vidya Bharathi is inculcating cultural values through Shishu Vatikas and Samskara Kendras.
Vidya Bharati is the largest non governmental educational organization in the country with
29000 educational institutions having associations with 37,000 Acharyas (teachers), and 30 lakh
students.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP)
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is striving to uphold the Hindu values and culture. The
organization was established in 1964 on Janmashtami day under the guidance of Shri Guruji.
VHP is inspiring Hindus who are torchbearers of Sanatana Dharma to protect Dharma for the
beneBit of the world.
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh(BKS)
BKS is farmers organization established by Shri. Dattopant Thengdi and Shri. Bhau Sahab
Bhuskute. At present Bharatiya Kisan Sangh has more than 8 lakh members. BKS is also aimed
at promoting agricultural research for promoting living standards of farmers, fair price
determination of crops using scientiBic methods and other aspects of the farmers welfare.
Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM)
SJM is an economic organization aimed at providing national perspective in consumption and
production of goods. Founded in Nov 1991 under the leadership of Shri. Dattopant Thengdi,
SJM is at the forefront of highlighting the necessity of sustainable economy as an alternative to
free market economy and communist economic theories.

Sewa Bharati It is a conglomeration of organisations with the objective of bringing relief to


under privileged people living in tribal & rural areas and urban slums. There are other service
oriented organizations like Bharatiya Kushth Niwarak Sangh, Swami Vivekananda Medical

Mission and National Medicos Organization operating in speciBic regions or focusing on


speciBic problems are contributing in this direction. Now, Sewa Bharati has undertaken more
than 1 lakh service projects.
Hindu Jagaran Manch (HJM)
HJM is a social initiative to monitorillegal activities such as conversions, cow slaughter, love
jihad, sabotaging activities of anti-national elements, and the vested interests who are affecting
the social harmony. Such Manchs have been created in various statesexamples are Hindu
Manch in Delhi, Hindu Munnani in Tamil Nadu, and Hindu Ekjut in Maharashtra, Hindu
Jagarana Vedike in Karnataka Samajik Samarasata Manch An organization intended to eradicate
social evils like casteism, untouchability and to spread the message of social harmony and
brotherhood amongst all Indians.
Samskrita Bharati
Samskrita Bharati is an organization working to bring Samskritam back into daily life through
the Speak Samskritam movement.
Hindu Seva Pratishthana
(HSP) Is a social organization involved in various service activities from its inception in 1980. It
is working for the welfare of Children and Woman especially among the underprivileged sections
of the society.
HSP is motivating youths to give up their valuable youth time for the cause of society and
providing training to them - who will be called as Sevavratis - to takeup these service activities.
Sevavratis, in the course of their training at HSP, imbibe qualities like patriotism, perseverance
and humility. They acquire the skills in working areas like Rural Development, Eradication of
untouchability, Drive against alcoholism, Literacy, Child Education, Common Health Education,
Environment Protection, Individual and Family Counseling, Rehabilitation of the Street
Children, Mentally Retarded or Physically handicapped. They will be equipped to teach Yoga
and Samksrita language. So far more than 3500 people have been trained. Various projects of
HinduSeva are helping street children (NELE project), mentally disabled (Aruna Chetana), poor
woman (vocational training) in a signiBicant way. Youth for Seva (YFS) started in April 2007 is
an unique initiative for providing opportunities for youth to take active part in community
development
Rashtrotthana Parishat
Is a Sangh afBiliated NGO supporting various projects in the Bield of Education, Dissemination,
Self-help and Health. It is running many schools in various parts of Karnataka state. It is also
helping out of school children to join main stream education. Rashtrothana Blood bank is one of
the most sophisticated blood banks of the state. Parishat also conducts medical camps in various
slums for the beneBit of the poor.

Gurukulas in Karnataka
A unique initiative in education is successfully being implemented in the lines of ancient
Gurukula system. All-round development of the child is ensured in this school by developing
Physical, Mental, Intellectual and Spiritual aspects of the personality. Self-study, Self-thinking,
Self-discipline and Self-help are the four corner stones of Gurukula life. Righteousness
(Dharma), devotion and love for ones country, coexistence with nature are imbibed by the child
during the course of the study. Now, 3 Gurukulas are in the state 2 for boys and 1 for girls.
Dharma Jagarana
Dharma Jagran is an organization aimed at vitalize principles of Dharma among masses. Dharma
Jagaran is working towards preventing illegal conversions of Hindus to other communities.
Regular programmes are conducted by the organization to provide opportunities. It also
organises regular programmes for men and women who converted to Islam or Christianity,
providing opportunities to them to realign to their family values and lifestyle.
Krishi Prayoga Parivara A group formed by farmers adopting environmental friendly
agricultural practices. Supporting Organic Farming, gaining independence from fertilizers in the
farming sector, and reinventing capital free, sustainable agricultural practices are some of the
focus areas of Krishi Prayoga Parivara.
Sakshama
SAKSHAMis aimed at bringing all the persons with various disabilities to the main stream of
our nation. Presently focusing on servicesto the visually impaired, SAKSHAM has plans to
expand its activities to all the persons with various disabilities.
Grama Vikasa
Grama Vikasa is aimed at bringing qualitative changes in rural life resulting in a model village.
This is a self-sustainable, comprehensive, program planned and executed by villagers. Activities
related to education, health, culture, economy, security and social harmony are undertaken in this
initiative.
