STORY SEQUENCING
MATERIALS
1. Tray
2. Three to six sequencing cards (pictures to be placed in sequence of a story, i.e.,
a tree with leaves, a tree with leaves falling, a tree with no leaves)

STEPS IN PRESENTATION
1. Place tray on mat or table
2. Remove each card in mixed order on mat or table
3. Arrange cards in order of sequence, left to right
4. Return to tray one card at a time, starting at top left
5. Return tray to shelf

SOUND BUCKETS
MATERIALS
1. Colored container (red=vowel, blue=consonant) marked with a letter of the
alphabet, containing:
a. Six small objects beginning with the containers alphabet sound (i.e., c:
cat, cord, cup, cube, crayon, comb)
b. Small felt mat matching the container color, folded inside the container
(red or blue)

Place work mat on floor


Retrieve and place sandpaper letter on left of work mat
Retrieve and place sound bucket to right of letter
Pick up sandpaper letter with left hand and trace the letter with two forefingers,
saying the sound (do twice)
5. Return sandpaper letter back to original place on mat
6. Point to the sound bucket and repeat the sound
7. Remove small felt mat from sound bucket and lay below sandpaper letter
8. Remove one object from sound bucket, name it (i.e., cat) and place it on top left
of colored felt mat
9. Continue in same manner with remaining objects, placing them left to right, three
top and three bottom
10. Point to each object, starting at the top left, and ask child to help you name them
11. Request child to close his/her eyes
12. Remove one object and place in sound bucket
13. Ask child to open eyes and guess what is missing
14. If the child incorrectly guesses, point to the object he/she named, saying, heres
the crayon, what is missing?
15. When object has been determined (with or without a hint), return it to its original
place. (A hint might be, it is an animal that meows.
16. Continue in same manner, perhaps removing more than one object this time,
depending upon child
17. When finished, return one object at a time back to sound bucket, from left to
right, top to bottom (Would you like to help me say them as I put them back?)
18. Fold small blue felt mat and place back into sound bucket
19. Return sound bucket to shelf
20. Return sandpaper letter to box on shelf
21. Fold work mat and return to proper place

EXERCISE VARIATIONS
1. Place cards with names of objects in sound bucket
2. Place a card showing the sign language symbol for the letter
3. Ask child to hide the object and have you guess what is missing
4. Make green phonogram buckets (i.e., th, oo, sh)

MATERIALS
Basket of objects that rhyme, i.e.:
1. Rock and sock
2. Jar and car
3. Boat and coat
4. Pen and hen
5. Ball and doll

STEPS IN PRESENTATION
1. Place basket on mat or table
2. Remove one of each matching object (i.e., just the rock, not the sock) and place
one below the other, one at a time
3. Remove the other matching objects, one at a time, and place to the right of their
match
4. Return each object to basket, going from left to right, top to bottom
5. Return basket to shelf

1. Use more than two each of the rhyming objects (i.e., cat, hat, bat)
