Is accepting nominations for

THE JON E. PEDERSEN EXCELLENCE IN GRADUATE MENTORING AWARD

The Jon E. Pedersen Excellence in Graduate Mentoring Award was established by the
University of Oklahoma’s Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education Graduate Student Council in
2008-2009 to honor faculty members in the college who go above and beyond to mentor
graduate students in their care. The award recognizes a faculty member each year who reflects
excellence in supporting, encouraging and promoting graduate student research, education,
professional and personal development, and career planning. The award is named in honor of
Dr. Jon Pedersen to distinguish his exceptional dedication to and mentoring of graduate
students in the college while serving as both professor of science education and associate dean
for graduate studies and research between 2004 and 2008.

Call for Nominations and Statement of Nomination Instructions

The Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education Graduate Student Council (GSC) is pleased to
announce that we are accepting nominations for the second annual Jon E. Pedersen Excellence
in Graduate Mentoring Award. This award is designed to recognize a faculty member who
reflects excellence in supporting, encouraging and promoting graduate student research,
education, professional and personal development, and career planning.

The Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education Graduate Student Council (GSC), comprised of
representatives from each graduate student association in the college, will select the 2009-2010
award recipient based solely upon the nomination information received from other graduate
students. As such, the award is being bestowed by graduate students (no faculty, alumni, or
administrator is involved in the selection process). Additionally, members of the GSC must
recluse themselves from nominating a faculty member. To nominate a full-time, tenure-track
professor who you think has demonstrated the qualities of an excellent mentor, please submit
the nomination by completing the online form, and then attaching statements of nomination
support. The GSC will accept up to three (3) additional letters of support for each professor
nominated. All nominations and letters of support must be from current graduate students in
good standing with the College of Education.

Attached is a list of the information needed and the criteria for nominees. Any incomplete
packets will not be considered as official nominations; therefore, the professor will not
be considered a valid nominee.
