LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH

I.

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able
to:
a. define what ballad is
b. listen attentively to a song and express reactions on
its lyrics
c. write a poem for their mother
d. read the poem with fluency, clarity and well
modulated voice
e. show appreciation of a mothers existence by sharing
insights or feelings about the poem

Procedure:
Introduction:
Prayer
Attendance

Presentation of the objectives of the days lesson.


Motivation:
Listening Task: The teacher will play the song
entitled A Mothers Love by Jim Brickman.
Oral Interaction: The teacher will ask students
who is being talked about in the song.
Sharing Views: The students will describe their/a
mother by providing words which starts with:

Introduce students to the term ballad.


Present the poem.
Give a short description about the author.
Unlock difficult words found in the poem.

Interaction:
First reading of the poem by the teacher and second
reading by the students.
Ask them:
- How many stanzas are there in the poem?
- How many poetic lines are there in each
stanza?
- What are the rhyming words in each
stanza?
Divide the students into 4 groups. Each group will be
given two stanzas to be explained briefly.
COMPREHENSION CHECK:
- What kind of night is described in the first stanza?
- Describe the young man as a suitor.

- What did the maiden ask of the young man to


prove his love for her? Why do you suppose she
did this?
- What line tells you of a mothers great love for her
child?
- What makes the poem a ballad?
Integration:
Think of your own mother and ponder on the words
of wisdom you gained from her. Write your acquired
wisdom and reflect how it changed you to be a better
person.
