AT-Sea Testing Update

The U.S. Navy will fire its first-ever Railgun at
sea on the Eglin Air Force Base Maritime Test
Range in late Summer of 2016 aboard JHSV5,
USNS TRENTON
The test will fire a GPS-Guided Hypervelocity
Projectile from a Railgun at a fixed over-thehorizon target
Further, it will validate system performance
models for a dynamic Railguns

Not a New Concept

Louis Octave Fauchon-Villeplee submitted first patent
for a Railgun on 1 April 1919 for an Electric Apparatus
for Propelling Projectiles
Patent no. 1,421,435 issued 4 July 1922

UK, Russia, China and U.S. Army (among others) have

been working on Railguns for decades
Current U.S. Navy program began in earnest in 2005
