Guidelines for Writing Internship Report


1.

Page:

Page should be of A4 size.

2.

Font:

Times New Roman, 12.

3.

Justification:

The whole document must be fully (left + right) justified.

4.

Spacing:

The body of the report should have 1.5 line spacing

5.

Margin:

3cm all round.

6.

Paragraphs and Sections: Extra blank line before and after every section and
subsection. Paragraphs must be separated by blank line.
Paragraphs must be justified.

7.

Headings & Subheadings: All headings and their subheadings should be properly
formatted.

8.

Punctuations, Spelling and Grammar Check: Use correct punctuation marks.


Spelling and grammar should
be accurate.

Page

Numbering: Every page should be numbered. The page numbers should


start with 1 from the first page of your chapter 1. All the pages
before the first chapter should be given Roman numbers (i, ii, iii,
etc.)

10. Word Limit:

Number of words limit to 3000200 EXCLUDI G title page,


declaration, acknowledgements, content page/s, tables,
figures, references and annexure.

Note: These typed pages should be in hard board binding in black colour. Title of the
study, candidate name, registration number & the year of submission should be
clearly mentioned on the cover page. Title format is given on page 5 of this
document.

Executive Summary - This is a most important part of your report. It summarizes


the body of the report, outlining its scope, purpose and major findings,
highlighting the key conclusions and recommendations.

CHAPTER O E - Introduction
a. Background of the Study
This section provides readers with the background information for the study.
Here the purpose is to establish a platform for the study and go on to literature
review. This section also provides clear understanding as to why this study is
required.
b. Statement of the Problem/Issue
State the problem/issue in terms intelligible to someone who is generally
sophisticated but who is relatively uninformed in the area of your
investigation. A problem statement/issue should be presented within a context,
and that context should be provided and briefly explained, providing if
possible, quantitative information and/or other supporting information.
Clearly and succinctly identify and explain the problem/issue that guides your
study.
c. Objectives/Purpose of the Study The purpose the study should provide a
Specific and accurate synopsis of the overall purpose of the study. It stresses
the reader why you performed the study. In other words, the reader should be
informed of the importance of the study. Key points to keep in mind when
preparing a purpose statement. Try to incorporate a sentence that begins with
the purpose of this study is. This will clarify your own mind as to purpose
and it will inform the reader directly and explicitly.

d. Significance of the Study


Indicate how your study will refine, revise, or extend existing knowledge in
the area under investigation. Note that such refinements, revisions, or
extensions may have substantive, theoretical, or managerial methodological
significance.
e. Design of the Study
The purpose of this section is to describe in detail how you performed the
study. This includes sample, data collection, and data analysing method. This
section should not be very lengthy. The writer has to give separate details of
survey methodology if he/she has conducted a survey in the study.
a. Sampling
Indicate who participated in the study, how many, and how were they
selected. (In case of case study, provide how case participants have
been selected and who are they etc)
b. Data Collection
Outline the data collecting method. This may include survey, interview
or observation procedures
c. Data Analysis
Specify the procedures you will use to analysis the data (for instance
ANOVA, Regression, Correlation, percentages, content analysis etc.).
f. Organisation of the Study
This section requires to present how the study is organized. It should include
the flow of report such as: Chapter-1 includes background, problem, purpose,
significance, research method, and organisation of the study. Chapter-2
includes overview of the company. Chapter 3 review of existing literature;
Chapter-4 includes analysis and findings; and Chapter 5 provides conclusion
and recommendations..

CHAPTER THREE - Review of Literature


The is really the heart of the study. The review of literature provides the background
and context for the research problem/issue. It should establish the need for the study
and indicated that the writer is knowledgeable about the area. Demonstrate to the
reader that you have a substantial grasp of the field. The literature review
accomplishes several purposes including framework and hypotheses development. The
writer includes the relevance and related literature relating to areas of study.
CHAPTER FOUR Analysis and Findings
This section is very important. You have to analyse the data using the method you
have outline in Introduction Chapter. Then the results should be discussed in line with
your research problems/issues and clearly present your findings. Those who used
qualititative /case study approach analysis their data presenting some narrative in this
section.
CHAPTER FOUR - Conclusions, limitations & recommendations
a. Conclusion
Conclusion must be based on findings of the study and link them to your research
objectives/purpose. It is better to have separate paragraph for each conclusion.
b. Limitations
A limitation identifies potential weaknesses of the study. Think about your data,
analysis, the nature of your instruments, and the sample. Explain these limitations
in briefly.
c. Recommendations
Recommendations must follow logically from the conclusion and findings. They
should not be vague, abstract, idealistic or ambitious. Instead they should be
specific, concrete, to the point, practical, relevant to the organization and the study
REMEMBER that conclusions deal with the present, recommendations with the future
