Psalm 19

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after
day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or
language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words
to the ends of the world. In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a
bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It
rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its
heat. (1-6)
God reveals Himself in many ways the earth, the heavens, the skies, the stars and the sun
declare the glory of God and proclaim the work of His hands
The Apostle Paul teaches that all mankind is without excuse for rebellion against God:
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine
nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made (Romans
1:20)
Not only does God display Himself through creation, but also through His written word
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The
commandments of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is
pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. They
are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey
from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. (711)
The law of the Lord is Gods revealed truth and is synonymous with the written word of
God, which is perfect or complete (Psalm 119:72, 105-107) our diligent effort in
studying the truth as revealed in the scriptures results in reviving the soul
The statutes of the Lord (Psalm 119:8, 16) are the principles put forth in His word, and
they are trustworthy anyone, regardless of age or intellect, seeking Gods truth becomes
wise
The precepts of the Lord (Psalm 119:4) are the particular injunctions derived from His
revealed truth, and they are right God gives the one who pursues Him and His truth joy
to the heart
Gods commandments are His authoritative words, and they are radiant as was Moses
when he came down from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commands (Exodus 31:18) Gods
commandments give light to the eyes
The fear of the Lord is reverential trust, awesome respect, and holy resolve not to disobey
or offend Him this is a pure motivation which endures forever and is the beginning
of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7, 9:10, 15:33, Job 28:28, Ecclesiastes 12:13, Psalm 111:10)
The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous and we can absolutely rely
on Gods truth, leaning upon Him and not our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5)
Who can discern His errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep Your servant also from willful
sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. (12-14)

As we contemplate the creativity and perfection of Almighty God, we humbly seek

forgiveness for both hidden faults and deliverance from willful sins not to rule over us
The source of this forgiveness and victory over sin (I John 1:9) comes from Gods greatest
revelation of Himself the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (John 1:1-14)
