1.

Key Aspects of Ormazabal CURRENT Solution

With regard the development of a smart transformer station, Ormazabal CURRENT

(OC) has a family of product solutions that with ORMAZABAL COTRADIS
assistance, could be seamlessly integrated into existing designs providing customers
a checklist of additional benefits and providing real differentiation from competitors.

With regards to a proposed Scope of Works, we would recommend the following

alternatives for COTRADIS consideration:

LV Insite - Three Phase Transformer Monitor;

PRIME DATA CONCENTRATOR (DCU) Model 9710 PLC

COMMUNICATIONS FAN COMMUNICATIONS

MVBPL - api-2000-sa Modem WAN COMMUNICATIONS

Ormazabal Smart Transformer Monitoringl

It should also be noted that OC also has a project underway to modernise the
existing portfolio starting by designing the core of the next generation architecture.
The solution remains in sync with the position of the company products and strategic
plan.
The concept is a single unique single enclosure for all components to reduce cost
but with an internal flexible design to allow for different configurations during
manufacturing. The HW allows future integration with external modules. The current
configuration of the device will consist of a fix embedded Linux CPU board + power
supply plus expansion slots for:

Interchangeable chipset to detach the HW solution from different PLC

protocols and chipset manufacturers

Supervisory Meter

Future needs (integration of communication devices for low cost wireless

integrated solution, integrated DIOM module, etc...)

Product availability is scheduled for Q3-Q4 2015.

In the interim as the base functionality remains consistent with what is described in
this document.
A summary the OC solution that could be considered for the smart transformer
station follows.

2.

LV Insite

The LV Insite is not a standard meter. It is a purpose built transformer and

monitoring device focused on providing actionable intelligence from the distribution
network being designed with transformer environments in mind

2.1

Data

OCs LV Insite is a true network edge device which can be user-configured to detect
and/or alarm on a wide variety of power line conditions (e.g. sag/swell voltage, over
current or voltage interruptions). In normal operation the LV Insite resembles a data
logger continuously storing both measured and computed values over an extended
period of time. Queries to the device can retrieve any subset of stored data, for
example:
True RMS phase voltage and currents
Real, reactive and apparent power per phase
Total harmonic distortion (voltage and/or current)
Frequency
Temperature
Conventional power quality parameters (e.g. THD, crest factor, K-factor, harmonic
magnitude/phase) and 3-phase sequence analysis are also computed.

Commercial in Confidence
www.ormazbal.com

Ormazabal Smart Transformer Monitoringl

Our OpenGrid NMS also provides standard analytics functionality such as

transformer overload, voltage imbalance, current imbalance and high & low voltage
exception reporting. Via its dashboard view, OpenGrid provides a high level
overview of all the most problematic transformers in the network against user
configurable parameters with a detailed segmentation of event types by transformer.
OpenGrid will display the most recent Wye phasor diagram, harmonics to the 30th
order including tabular values and all 12 Fortescue symmetrical components phase
aligned to Va.
Measurement intervals may vary from 1 second to 7 days and are user configurable
by individual device or globally. In addition to interval measurements, the solution
supports percentage change data collection to enable better insight into network
changes/disturbances based on a configurable delta between one interval logged
data value and the preceding interval logged data value. For randomly changing
measurement values, % change is a valuable tool. OC uses NTP to synchronize
elements across the network so that time stamped data are well aligned in time.
Data may be stored on the LVA for up to 30 days when configured for a typical
logging interval of 5 minutes or more. The LVA also supports data persistence so
that even with a loss of power, data is not lost. On the resumption of power or
communications connectivity, data will be pushed back to the NMS as per the
configured service schedule. The LVA module has 1Gb of flash memory."
The LV Insite can communicate concurrently to the hosted OpenGrid solution by
SNMP, but also via DNP3 to the Principles scada or system optimization systems.
This provides total flexibility, a redundancy option for some data but most importantly
the ability to segregate data between operational and non-operational data.

2.2

Hardware

The device is IP65 rated per IEC 60529 with an associated mounting bracket that
enables simple and direct mounting to overhead poles without the need for separate
enclosures. The primary benefit of this is that the monitoring device does not need to
be housed with a separate enclosure or switch board.
Mounting options include
DIN Rail Mounting 210-0320-0001 x 1 per

Flush Mount 240-0619-0001 x 2 per

Ormazabal Smart Transformer Monitoringl

Pole Mount 240-0553-0001 x 2 per

Coupled with OpenGrid Distribution the LV Insite provides a range of additional

reporting and alarming capability specifically designed with transformer monitoring in
mind. Some examples of the actionable intelligence reports that improve grid
reliability and asset management include the following:

Transformer Over/Under Voltage Reports: Detects transformer voltages that

are outside a configured threshold. Upon a configurable number of minutes
from detecting a transformer over/under voltage condition, a report is
generated and a notification sent to the Area Engineer.

Transformer load monitoring/overload detection. Improves system reliability

by performing advanced analysis of transformer loading data to identify
transformers in danger of failure from acute or long duration overloads.

www.ormazbal.com

Ormazabal Smart Transformer Monitoringl

Voltage Imbalance Report: Improves system reliability by reporting voltages

on the low voltage secondary that are not within a configurable delta of each
other.

Secondary Load Current Imbalance Report: Allows the utility to improve

system efficiency and reduce losses by reporting imbalance between
secondary LV phases. Functionality also allows user to define sustained time
and recovery limits for imbalance existence to improve notification of long term
imbalance. Formal imbalance expressed as the ratio of Fortescue sequence
magnitudes is also available.

Outage reporting. Allows the utility to reduce outage durations by providing a

notification that a loss of voltage has been detected.

Identification of Max/Min Data Values: Lines signifying both the maximum and
minimum data values for graphing

Complete frequency domain power quality analysis suite is included

Aggregate statistics: A table of minimum, maximum, and average values for

each phase of every measurement type. The aggregation period and unit (day
/ week / month) can be specified.

AC Hold-up with last gasp messaging

The LV Insite solution supports automated asset discovery and notification

(AADN). This allows for assets within the transformer station connected to the
chassis to be immediately discovered and interfaced with OpenGrid NMS.
This simplifies commissioning and asset/inventory management.

The LV Insite voltage/power cable now has an inline disconnect / reconnect

capability. - This is implemented via an interlocking connector that can be
twisted shut or open, will effectively break the single power cable into two
parts. This makes install and exchange much simpler with no need for an
outage. The interlocking connector also comes with an integrated fuse for
protection / isolation negating the need for the utility to add further protection.

Device support static IP address allocation, DHCP, static routing, ARP;

The LV Insite supports data persistence so that even with a loss of power,
data is not lost. On the resumption of power or communications connectivity,
data will be pushed back to the NMS as per the configured service schedule.

The LV Insite provides power quality data plus more.

Configuring Sag and Swell monitoring. The configurable Sag settings include:

provided in table format that easily export into Excel. The LV Insite
supports interval based and on demand power quality analysis;

OCs Rogowski coil current sensors provide high accuracy current sensing in the
easiest to install form factors. All current sensors are factory calibrated with relevant
parameters stored in a small non-volatile memory housed with the sensor. This
information is automatically read by the electronics when mated with each sensor. No
data entry at all is required in the field. Each sensor also includes an integrated
miniature digital temperature sensor. The integrated temperature sensor and stored
calibration factors allows the LV Insite to continuously provide extremely high
accuracy of measurements across full temperature range.
The sensor portfolio includes several types and sizes of highly accurate Rogowski
coil current sensors. The Rogowski sensors form factor simplifies installation in
congested or hard to access locations. The Slimline sensor is IP65 rated and is
suited for indoor or outdoor installations. Additionally, both the Slimline and Flexible
sensors are available in multiple sizes ensuring the product fits on most low voltage
conductors. The Slimline sensors can be installed on insulated and bare LV mains.
The clamshell design makes for a very simple and "live" install. Sensors are
connected directly to the monitoring device using an IP65 rated USB style connector.
With the slimline Rogowski insulation ring (shipped with each Slim Line Rogowski),
we have demonstrated 600V CAT IV and 1000V CAT III compatibility. This means
the sensors are rated to be installed on bare 230V mains. The sensor and insulation
ring is UV compliant.
In addition to our existing range of Rogowski sensors, Ormazabal also has a purpose
built CT Adaptor that could be used for example in new install transformers that come
with CTs already configured.
The CTs are firmware configured for any N:5 ratio.

The device comes with integrated quad band wireless modem within the IP65
chassis.
The LV Insite uses Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC870x Embedded Modules and
supports:

WCDMA - 850/900/1900/2100Mhz; and

GSM/GPRS - 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Sierra Wireless also provides an upgrade path available now to LTE.

The device has a standard Ethernet port that can also be used to connect to a
service provider's network third party device. The device has an RS-232 port which is
reserved for the local console and can be helpful in some setup and debug situations.

3.2

OpenGrid Distribution

Is the enterprise software platform that enables the collection, visualisation and
analysis of sensor data, creating Actionable Intelligence the identification of
specific and definable actions that respond to live problems, improve operating
efficiency, help mitigate aging workforce issues, lower energy losses, and avoid
failures before they occur. Actionable Intelligence defines the time, place, and
specific action that should occur, allowing either automated responses or the
dispatch of crews directly to specific problems without a lengthy search and ensuring
a speedy response directed at the problem. This approach can even identify
problems before a customer may notice any change in their service. OpenGrid
Distribution incorporates remote configuration of devices to set threshold detection,
alarming, and data variance detection. It also integrates with other utility databases
to provide normalised access to data to facilitate the development of advanced
analytics. This analytics platform provides linkages to the other utility systems
through application programming interfaces (APIs) and with information flow that
ensures that existing systems benefit from the enhanced view of the state of the
network. OpenGrid Distribution enables a utility to take full advantage of the LVA
without having to sort through streams of data.
Appendix A includes a full OpenGrid Feature List

3.3

OpenGrid Metering

OpenGrid Metering is a vendor-neutral Data Concentrator (DCU), enterprise class

AMI data collection, management and analysis solution specifically developed for
PLC based solutions. OpenGrid Metering collects aggregated meter data from each
DCU and forwards the data using standard interfaces (e.g., SOAP/XML) to other
utility enterprise systems, such as a Meter Data Management System (MDMS).

Recommendations

Recent discussions have highlighted the prospective synergy that could be derived
through joint collaboration in delivering our customers a true smart transformer
station.
It is recommended:

ORMAZABAL CURRENT and ORMAZABAL COTRADIS jointly identify a

project that could be leveraged as the enabler for defining the smart
transformer solution. That is transitioning from concept to reality.

Project target should be a renewables project as the timelines and

complexities may be less than dealing with utility customers.

Nominate a small project team from both groups to define, document and
articulate a prospective solution and go to market plan;

Nominate an executive project sponsor.
