2.01DoubleWallFiberglassReinforcedPlastic(FRP)UndergroundStorageTanks
A.LoadingConditionsTankshallmeetthefollowingdesigncriteria:
1. InternalLoadTankshallwithstanda5psigairpressuretestwith5:1safetyfactor.Contractorshallindividually
testtanksforleakagepriortoinstallation.Maximumtestpressureis5psig.
2. VacuumTestToverifystructuralintegrity,everystandard10'diametertankandsmallershallbevacuumtested
bythemanufactureratthefactoryto11.5"ofmercury.
3. SurfaceLoadsTankshallwithstandsurfaceH20axleloadswhenproperlyinstalledaccordingtomanufacturers
currentInstallationManualandOperatingGuidelines.
4. ExternalHydrostaticPressureandBurialDepthTankshallbecapableofbeingburiedingroundwith7'of
overburdenoverthetopofthetank,theholefullyfloodedandasafetyfactorof5:1againstgeneralbuckling.
5. Tankshallsupportaccessoryequipmentsuchasdroptubes,submersiblepumpsandladderswheninstalled
accordingtotankmanufacturerscurrentInstallationManualandOperatingGuidelines.
B.ProductStorage
1. TankshallbecapableofstoringchemicalsorLeachatewithspecificgravityupto1.1.
2. Tankshallbeventedtoatmosphericpressure.
3. Tankshallbecapableofstoringproductsidentifiedinthemanufacturerscurrentstandardlimitedwarranty.

becompletedandsubmittedtoXerxesforapprovalpriortomanufacturing.

Foreachchemicaltank,aXerxesUndergroundChemicalTank(UCT)Applicationform,whichshallincludethe
listofchemicalproductstobestoredinthetank,shallbecompletedandsubmittedtoXerxesforapprovalpriorto
manufacturing.
3. Approvalforeachapplicationofthetank,anylimitationsonuseandanydesignconsiderationsshallbeprovided
byXerxes.
4. Whenapproved,thecompletedformisreturnedtothecustomerandbecomesExhibitAoftheXerxesLimited
WarrantyforUndergroundChemicalTanks.
F.InterstitialSpace
1. Tankshallhaveaspacebetweentheprimaryandsecondarywallstoallowforthefreeflowandcontainmentof
leakedproductfromtheprimarytank.Thespacealsoallowstheinsertionofamonitoringdevicethrougha
monitoringfitting.
2.02Accessories
A.OptionalHydrostaticLeakMonitoringSystem
1. Thetankmanufacturershalloffertheoptionofacontinuouslymonitored,hydrostaticheadpressure,leakdetection
system,toincludeanintersticefactoryfilledwithmonitoringfluid,andafiberglassreservoirmounteddirectlyon
topofthetanktoprovideforcontinuousmonitoringofthefluidlevel.
2. Theleakmonitoringsystemshallbedesignedbythemanufacturertodetectaleakineithertheprimaryor
secondarytank,atinstallationswithorwithoutgroundwater.
3. ThehydrostaticmonitoringsystemshallbeULthirdpartyverifiedandshallmeetEPAcriteriafortanktightness
testingthroughtheuseofTRUCHEK.(Forfurtherinformation,refertotheXerxesdocumentonTRUCHEK.)
B.OptionalAnchorStraps
1. StrapsshallbeFRPanchorstrapsassuppliedbytankmanufacturer.
2. Numberandlocationofstrapsshallbespecifiedincurrentliteraturebytankmanufacturer.

1. AlltanksforchemicalstorageorLeachateshallrequireatleastonemanway.
2. Allmanwaysshallbeflangedand22"diameter,completewithULlistedcover,gasketandhardware.(30"and
36"diametermanwaysarealsoavailableoncertainlargertanks.)

4. OptionalmanwayextensionsshallbeFRPsuppliedbythemanufacturer.
D.GaugePlates
1. Gaugeplatesshallbeinstalledundereachservicefittingandmanwayopening.

1. PumpplatformsshallbeFRPassuppliedbythetankmanufacturer.
2. Tankmanufacturerwillrequiresubmittalinformationofthepumpdetails.
G.Fittings
1. Allfittingsshallbelocatedalongthetopcenterlineofthetank.
2. Bottomdrainandtangentialnozzlesarenotallowedwithoutauthorizationfromthetankmanufacturer.
3. AllstandardNPTthreadedfittingsshallbeconstructedofcarbonsteel,FRPor304stainlesssteel.
4. AllstandardNPTthreadedfittingsshallbehalfcouplingsorfullcouplingand2",4",or6"diameter.Reducersare
tobeusedforsmallersizeswhereshownandprovidedbycontractor.
5. AllNPTfittingsshallwithstandaminimumof150footpoundsoftorqueand1,000footpoundsofbending,both
witha2:1safetyfactor.
6. AlloptionalFRPnozzlesshallbeflatfaced,flangedandgusseted,andshallconformtoANSIB16.5150#bolting
pattern.
7. Eachinterstitialspacemonitorfittingshallconsistofa4"NPTfittingonthesecondarytank.

A.TankshallbeinstalledaccordingtotheXerxesInstallationManualandOperatingGuidelinesforFiberglassUnderground
StorageTanksineffectattimeofinstallation.
B.Contractorshallbetrainedbythetankmanufacturer,thestateorotherapprovedagency.
3.03OperationandMaintenance
A. Tankshouldbesetuponaregularcleanoutscheduleandbestmanagementpracticesaccordingtolocaljurisdictions.
