ROVCON Tie-in System

FMCs ROVCON ROV-based tie-in and connection system is designed for both first-end and
second-end tie-in of flowlines and umbilicals. ROVCON is attached underneath a work-class
ROV. The tie-in skid package performs tie-ins using two winches. The stroking cylinders
conduct the final pull-in and closing of the connector. The system includes a set of ROVoperated tools for hub preparation prior to connection.

ROV carried
Tie-in System
An advantage of the ROVCON tie-in system is its
design, which enables it to perform a series of tie-ins
and connections of pre-laid lines without returning to
the surface. The system is compact, requires minimal
mobilisation and is air transportable. FMCs ROVCON
tie-in systems have been used to connect hundreds
of flowlines and umbilicals for major oil companies
worldwide.
ROVCON Mk 2

Technical Description
Main system components
Permanent subsea equipment:
Termination head on each end of the sealine/ spool
piece.
Inboard hub permanently installed on subsea
structure.

Tie-in and connection equipment:

Tie-in skid package with hydraulic functions to pull
in the line and to stroke and close the connector
attached underneath the ROV.
Anti-reaction flying interface to provide an inboard
hold during pull-in, stroking and connection.

Additional ROV tools and equipment:

Hub cleaning and seal replacement tool (HCSRT).
Hub inspection camera used to inspect the seal face.
Tool elevator mounted on the ROV and used to lower
the hub cleaning and seal replacement tools.
Flowline lifting tool, hydraulically or mechanically
actuated, used to lift and install a flexible flowline into
the target area.
Key Features:
ROV-based pull-in and connection system for the 2nd
end tie-in of flexible flowlines and umbilicals.
Flexible and rigid spools.
The ROVCON skid package is operated by a workclass ROV System.

The skid package is controlled from a compact,

briefcase-sized control unit on the surface through
the ROVs primary control system.
ROVCON operates multibore and monobore collet
connectors up to 12 3/4 OD for Mk1 and up to 16
OD for Mk2.
The skid package can also activate collet connectors
after installation of a horizontal rigid spool.
The system includes ROV-operated tools for hub
preparation, cleaning and inspection.
The system can be deployed from a surface vessel
or drilling rig.

Installation Sequence
Deployment

The ROVCON Mk1 skid is attached underneath the work

ROV prior to subsea deployment, while the ROVCON Mk2
is deployed separately and connected to the ROV subsea.

Operational procedure for pull-in using

ROVCON

The ROV attaches the pull-in wires to the inboard hub,

using an anti-reaction flying interface, and removes
the in board hub protection.

Inboard hub face is cleaned and seal is inserted with

special ROV tool.

ROV flies back while the ropes are payed out, and the
ROV lands and locks onto the termination head on the
flowline/
umbilical.

Winches in the ROVCON skid pull in the termination

head at the end of the sealine until it is aligned with
the inboard hub.

The collet connector is then stroked against the inboard

hub and finally closed.

An external pressure test is performed to verify the

integrity of the seal.

ROV with ROVCON skid is unlocked from termination

head; may continue with another tie-in or retrieved to
surface.
