Bellmer has been the market leader for more than 35 years in the field of mechanical solid
liquid separation. The TURBODRAIN represents a further revolutionary development for the
separation of suspensions.
TM

The TURBODRAIN applies the principle of gravity

filtration and guarantees highest performance
on minimum space. Flocculant is added to the
suspension and the flocculated sludge is evenly
distributed over the whole width of the continuously
circulating belt. The water drains off through the
apertures of the belt while the solids are retained.
The patented Bellmer Chicanes create a ploughing
action constantly moving the sludge bed and

transporting remaining free water close to the belt to

drain through the apertures of the belt.
The adjustable ramp multiplies the retention time on
the belt, thus allowing more water to drain off and
increasing the dry solids content of the thickened
sludge. The sludge is discharged from the ramp by
a scraper. Thickening on the TURBODRAIN may
reduce the volume of all types of suspensions by up
to 95%.

Design

As experts for filtration and thickening of many different types of suspensions we offer the
TURBODRAIN for the solution of your sludge thickening problem.

Special attention was given to the design of the feed and maturation chamber and the filtrate
collection trough to achieve optimum flow conditions.

The TURBODRAIN TDC is ideally suited

for biological and slow settling sludges at
low suspended solid concentration in the
suspension, such as:

- waste-activated sludge
- mixed primary and activated sludge < 1% DS

The TURBODRAIN TDH was especially

developed
to
thicken
quick
settling
suspensions and slurries with high suspended
solid concentration in the suspension such as:

- digested sludge
- primary sludge
- mixed primary and activated sludge
- mineral slurries
- fibre containing suspensions (paper industry)
For very special applications the TURBODRAIN
TDH-L has become available.

Special Features

The Bellmer Chicanes

The wedge-shaped chicanes prevent the built-up of
a sludge layer hardly permeable for further filtrate
drainage. Simultaneously the chicanes create continuously open areas on the belt surface to allow more
filtrate to drain through the belt. The ploughing action
of the chicanes also liberates additional free water
from the pre-thickened sludge.

The Bellmer ramp

At the end of the belt the pre-thickened sludge is
dammed up by the adjustable, patented ramp.
The ramp increases the retention time of the sludge
on the belt - thus enhancing considerably the final dry
solid content of the thickened sludge.

Additional details and improvements

The patented maturing chamber integrated the sludge feed system of the TURBODRAIN as well as the adjustable
supporting legs demonstrate the efforts we have put into the design of details. An odour hood is available as an
option which can be connected to a fume exhaust system. A simple odour hood without exhaust nozzle is also
available.

High quality filtrate
The integrated process technology guarantees a
very low concentration of suspended solids of the
filtrate.
The BELLMER RECYCLING SYSTEM BRS will
improve solids capture and is installed if very high
solids capture rates (>98%) are required.
The German Association for Water and Environment has published a figure of Euro 205.00 being
the cost incurred for each ton of solids in filtrate to
be recycled.

Minimised flocculant consumption

The optimally synchronized system of the patented Bellmer mixing unit and the integrated feed and
maturation chamber as well as the gentle thickening on the belt ensure a very low consumption of
flocculant.
