REPORT DESCRIPTION
The automotive sector over the years has seen a growing inclination towards safety and comfort of
the passenger. This focus on safety of the passengers/driver is illustrated by the steps taken by
automotive manufacturers, such as introduction of seat belts, air-bags and ABS (anti-lock braking)
in the vehicles, also by government legislations making such devices compulsory. But with the
advent of electronics and the internet in this segment, we have seen a quantum leap in the services
now available to make the vehicle safe as well as comfortable for the driver.
One such development in the Automotive Electronics segment which has caught the attention of
the automotive OEMs and other vendors alike is the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
ADAS is basically a broad term used to refer to a number of technologies such as sensors, RADAR,
LIDAR, integrated cameras etc., which assist the driver, making his/her driving experience more
safe and comfortable. ADAS combines the use of sensors and cameras and other intelligent
devices to provide the driver with an all-round picture of what is going-on in the surroundings of
the vehicle and also has capability to provide warning signal in times of emergencies.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are designed to provide essential information and automate
complex or repetitive tasks, leading to an overall increase in driver situational awareness and safety.
They are primarily focused on collision avoidance technologies (for example, lane departure warning
and blind-spot applications) and driver aids, such as night vision, driver alertness. Advanced Driver
Assistance Systems also offer several other important functions for drivers, including adaptive cruise
control that speeds up or slows down the car based on road conditions, keeps a check on the tire
pressures, provide in-vehicle navigation system to name a few. Blind spot detection is another
option that now offers additional functionality on many vehicles. On some radar-based Blind Spot
Detection (BSD) systems this feature can use its sensors to determine when vehicles are
approaching from the side when reversing out of a parking space. Other BSD systems are able to
look further rearward to check for overtaking vehicles about to enter the blind spot.
The report describes the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems market by product types, modules,
fuel types, components, geography, and industry verticals. High level analysis about the individual
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems product costs, strategies, future opportunities along with the
business landscape analysis of key market players are focused in the report.
The global market for advanced driver assistance systems has grown substantially in recent years, as
vehicle companies have increased the safety content of their vehicles in response to market and
legislative pressures. In essence ADAS features focus on increasing the automatic or autonomous
control of the car's behavior, independently of the driver, and/or providing the driver with
increased information on road conditions to improve his/her driving performance.

The entry of many of the major global automotive manufacturing giants like BMW, Ford, General
Motors, Toyota etc., and also global technology majors like Robert Bosch, Delphi, Continental AG
etc., has made this market highly valuable one. The current Global ADAS market is estimated to be
around $ 18.5 Billion, and with the growing consumer interest in this market driven by- government
legislations (Egg: in Europe) and other regulatory body requirements rise, it is estimated to grow up
to $ 165 Bn by 2018. The overall CAGR of this market according to our estimates is more than
50%.
The table below represents the projected forecasts for Global ADAS market on the basis of enduser services for the year 2015, 2017 and 2018 by keeping 2013 as a base year for compounding

ADAS has been available in high-end, luxury vehicles for over a decade now. However market
studies show ADAS is starting to make their way into higher-volume (low and middle end) cars.
Traditionally ADAS systems are fitted by the car vendor during production (pre-sale), but now
aftermarket sales of ADAS equipment has seen a tremendous rise, with the price of such systems
coming down, leading to high demand. The shift to more popular cars is the result of the
improvement ADAS has undergone over the years. Aside from better functionality, the systems
have become easier to produce and fit. This combination of improved performance and lower
production cost is driving more car makers to enter the ADAS market. In this report, competitive
landscape for each of the product types is highlighted and market players are profiled with attributes
of company overview, financial overview, business strategies, product portfolio and recent
developments.
Around 10 million sensing devices for driver assistance systems are expected to be shipped
worldwide in 2013, with monocular cameras accounting for the major share of these devices. Due
to mandatory application of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems in Europe in passenger cars by 2014
and mandatory application of Lane Departure Warning Systems on HCV (Heavy Commercial
Vehicles) by 2015, the demand for ADAS is expected to increase in Europe. Safety norms are not
only reason for their high growth; growing personal safety concerns are also playing an important
role in the demand for driver assistance system in passenger cars. In 2013 the global in-vehicle
sensing system market is predicted to grow at 60% year on year on a volume basis to 22.1 million
units. Even stronger year-on-year growth is forecast for 2014, with volume increasing 70% to 38.5
million units. Sensors of various types form a major part of the ADA Systems, and their demand
in the market has seen rapid growth. The graph below shows the estimated demand for Auto
OEM Sensors for the period 2013-2020.

Automotive sensing systems are expected to evolve from stand-alone systems into cooperative
driving assistance systems, eventually leading to self-driving vehicles connected to social
infrastructure by communications technology. The concept of autonomous car and the SmartGrid technology though are still a few years away from us, will be dependent on ADAS systems,
emphasizing the scope for ADA systems in the long-term.

MARKET - TRENDS
With the rising demand for safety as well as comfort for the consumer, Advanced Driving
Assistance Systems are rapidly growing in demand with current estimates showing a CAGR of
more than 50% for the next five years. Since the time of the introduction of ABS(Anti-lock
Braking System), to the current technologies like Automated Parking systems, the driver
assistance systems have come a long way and developed into a multi-billion dollar market. Some
of the key market trends observed:
The global advanced driver assistance systems market is expected to grow from around
$18.5bn in 2013 to around $165bn in 2018.
The European Commission and Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Program)
regulations about making autonomous-emergency braking (AEB) technology part of
European crash evaluations from 2014, mandatory application of TPMS and also LDWS
will be the major growth drivers for the market.
Autonomous and semi-autonomous cars being developed by auto OEMs is making the
ADAS market progress at a very fast rate in the technology perspective.
The aftermarket sales of driving assistance systems have seen a multi-fold increase over
the years especially in rapidly growing market such as China.
With costs of the advanced driving systems coming down, this has seen a rise in the
demand for these systems not only in high-end luxury cars but also cars in mass
production.
Suppliers such as Continental and Robert Bosch etc., are working closely with OEMs
right from the product concept to develop low-cost ADAS such as LDW systems, traffic
sign recognition systems, intelligent headlamp control systems, and driver monitoring
systems for the Medium-sized Cars and Compact Cars segments
