ELLIPTICAL SENTENCE

Elliptical sentence atau yang sering disebut dengan ellipsis atau construction adalah
penggabungan dua buah kalimat yang memiliki unsur sama dengan tujuan untuk
membuat kalimat majemuk dan menghilangkan pengulangan kata yang tidak
diperlukan.
Dalam pengerjaan / penggunaan kalimat Elliptical Construction, perlu diperhatikan
tentang kata kerja bantu / auxiliary verb :

Kalimat gabungan setara adalah gabungan kalimat yang mempunyai unsur
predikat seperti kata kerja ataupun auxiliary yang sama, sehingga untuk
menggabungkannya cukup dengan menggunakan kata sambung and
a) Elliptical sentence dalam kalimat gabungan secara positif

Catatan :
Kalimat yang menggunakan kata seperti never, seldom, rarely, barely,
hardly, few, little dianggap berpengertian negatif sehingga pola elliptical
sentencenya menggunakan pola negatif.

Kalimat gabungan setara berlawanan adalah gabungan kalimat yang
mempunyai unsur predikat seperti kata kerja auxiliary yang berbeda
pengertian, dimana satu kalimat berpengertian positif dan satu lagi

berpengertia negatif, sehingga untuk menggabungkannya digunakan kata

sambung but/while/whereas.

Subject 1 + auxiliary + verb + but/while/whereas + Subject 2 + auxiliary not + verb
