Nilai Future Leaders Camp Report Last Saturday, Nilai University has organized Future Leaders Camp in collaboration with NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women (NIEW). This event was held from 15th 17th November 2014 at Nilai Springs Resort Hotel and was greeted warmly by many participants and organizers from both public and private institutions of higher education all over the country. Moreover, this event also received strong supports by the Ministry of Education Malaysia. Unlike previous years, this year guest of honor is YB Dato Sri Rohani Adbul Karim who is our beloved Minister of Women, Family & Community Development. The theme for this year Future Leaders Camp is Innovation in Leadership: A focus on Gender Issues which emphasized on gender issues and participants will exposed to seminars, workshops, talks and parliamentary-style debate. For instance, YBhg. Prof. Datuk Dr. Megat Burhainuddin Bin Megat Abdul Rahman who is the Vice Chairman of Nilai University stated that this camps objective is enhance the participants exposure towards key areas which will leads them to acquiring mastery of leadership skills. Likewise, the participants could understand leadership, then developing leadership skills and therefore enhancing them to becoming a leader in the future. Based on quote from Peter Drucker, it also shown that Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked, leadership is defined by results not attributes Besides that, the event also has invited many high profile speakers such as YBhg. Dato Saifuddin Abdullah. YBhg. Dato Saifuddin Abdullah is the CEO of Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) as well as the Chairman of Youth Academy and former Deputy Minister of Higher Education. Moreover, he is a progressive politician who advocates the idea of New Politics, youth empowerment and social entrepreneurship. He is also actively promoting debate culture and basketball. Before becoming a politician, he was President of the Malaysian Youth Council; Member of the United Nations Secretary Generals High Level Panel on Youth Development; Consultant of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP); and a student activist. Apart from that, YBhg. Dato Saifuddin Abdullah also is a prolific writer, who has published six books; one of which, New Politics (2008), is a best seller and reference of analysts on Malaysian politics. He is columnists of Sinar Harian, The Edge Malaysia, Oriental Daily, See Hua Daily Sarawak and Makkai Osai. Dato Saifuddin Abdullah emphasizes on the main issues which clouding each and every university in Malaysia; which is the issues of quality. Quality as it seems easy to understand but is actually hard to define. It took a lot of things and issues into considerations; such as academic freedom; since the students and as well as the university administration ease of movement today is quite limited. He also shares about the experience when he was a student activist, university administrators and as well as the Deputy Minister of Higher Education as these experiences made him to have a compassion feeling towards todays university students. As for ending of his speech, he also encourage that we should learn to be a leader instead a follower as we could gain more various types of knowledge and experiences and these factors will enhance us to become a better leader in the future. As for the closing ceremony on Monday 17th November 2014, Dato Sri Rohani talks about Social Welfare Department (JKM) who operates to taking care their disabled (OKU) children and encourages parents who have problem taking care of their disabled children to put their children under the JKMs custody as they will receive appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. By the way, she also mentioned that if the parents didnt provide a good living for their children, they will be charged under lawsuit. She also strongly insists that OKU also have rights to be taking care of based on case of Lolanopita Sadi. After that, Vice Chansellor of Nilai University Prof. Datuk Dr, Megat Burhainuddin applauded and praised the participants for their great responses and active involvement during the event. Also, he quite pleased with the participants high level of awareness on current issues and hoped that they have benefits much from this future leader camp. As a conclusion, the organizers of this event is looking forward for next year as it receive overwhelming positive responses compared to previous years besides hoping to making it an even bigger event next year because even Ministry of Higher Education had

proclaimed the camp a great success and claimed that this kind of event should be organize more often in university level.
