Help When You Need It

Where You Need It
In this recession, many of us find ourselves in need of support – even those of us who have never before
had the need to access assistance.
UJA-Federation of New York created Connect to Care, an initiative that capitalizes on its capacity to
respond to a community-wide crisis and use its vast agency network to leverage the services.
The result is a broad array of services that are coordinated among agencies and area synagogues to pro-
vide you and your family with the help you need – where you need it. You can access services near your
home, your job, or are in a more discreet location, ensuring that services are easy to obtain, comprehen-
sive, and delivered confidentially.

on museum where children and their families can
experience the joy and fun of learning about Jewish
life, history, values, traditions and heroes, as well as
Israel and the Hebrew language. The interactive dis-
plays are designed to transform visitors into partici-
pants, offering adults and children a unique opportuni-
ty to discover the wonders of their Jewish heritage.

“Life is a dream for the wise,

a game for the fool, a comedy for the rich, and a tragedy for the poor”
(Sholom Aleichem)
Sholom Aleichem had a humorous view of the world around him. From taking a pen name, literally
meaning “Peace be with you” to wondering... “Where is Peace?”
The masterful story teller was born Solomon Rabinowitz, in the Ukraine, Russia in 1856 and died in New York City
in 1916. He was one of twelve siblings living with a stepmother, and a story telling father, in tight quarters and
scarce money, as well as being a witness to the difficult life of the Jewish people in his little shtetl. This setting
provided young Solomon with vivid material for many of his stories.
Sholom Aleichem is known as one of the world’s greatest Yiddish writers, he had written stories, plays like, Watch for our
“Fiddler on the Roof”, and poems, which were published in twenty-eight volumes.
Although Sholom Aleichem rich descriptive stories, infused with tradition, rituals and human nature, (which GRAND
could be lost some what in translation) are written about times long gone, his message of the importance of the
family and tradition is ever lasting. Let’s turn the clock backwards and learn from Sholom Aleichem how to dream
wisely, how not to play foolish games, to live richly with humor in our hearts, and turn tragedy into a blessing.
REOPENING!
Visitors will • Explore Sholom Aleichem’s Crater on the “Moon” Our Discovery Museum
