INTRODUCTION
To start, the gerund is a noun made from a verb. To form a gerund you add "ing" to a verb,
as also the infinitive verb "to" is used in the same way. In addition there are verbs that can
be used both in the gerund and the infinitive.

1. Gerunds and Infinitives:


They are forms of verbs that act as names, mainly, is when the verb ends in the letter "ing"
and is mostly used to express the beginning and end of an activity, as the infinitive is
formed with the preposition "to "and this is frequently used when actions are not real, they
are general or are future.
Gerunds as subjects
Making a plane is very complicated.
Creating a home in my house.
Gerund as Object
She continuous working on the design.
I like building in the community
Infinitive as subject
To make a plane is very complicated.
Is easy to create a housing.
Infinitive as Object
She continued to work in the desing.
I like to build in the community.
2. Gerunds. Verbs followed by gerunds
The most common verbs followed by gerunds usually find are: like, love, hate, enjoy, miss,
practice, suggest, can not help, admit, deny, etc. Some of these verbs are always followed
by a gerund (verb ending in -ing), and they can not be followed by infinitives.
Examples:
My parents always thinking what study civil engineering.
He is working on building

3. Gerunds. Adjectives followed by a preposition


It is important to know that preposition goes behind each of these verbs and adjectives, not
predictable, it is necessary to memorize the different combinations of verbs or adjectives
with prepositions. For this reason, it is said that it is important to work with the dictionary
and try to recycle these expressions to keep in the memory.
Examples:
Mary is good at drawing in the plane
Sara is capable of studying calculation.
4.- TEXT
Civil engineering is a branch of engineering that applies the knowledge of physics,
mathematics, chemistry, mechanics, hydraulics, topography and geology for the
development of infrastructure, mainly buildings, waterworks and transport such as roads
and bridges, generally large, for public use, using materials that meet the constructive
purposes, such as concrete, steel, soil, etc. Something very important to know its main
function is corresponding to the engineering of civilization, thus being one beyond
engineering construction as the other feature that has a strong organizational component
that achieves its application in the administration the urban environment, mainly rural and
often not only in terms of construction, but also the maintenance, control, and operation of
the buildings, as well as in the planning of human life in the environment designed for the
same.

To conclude, could give us that the gerund is used followed by a verb, because this does not
change anything in the sentence and different combinations necessary know whether an
object, adjective, preposition and subject.
