Statement of Purpose (SOP)

When I was a child, I used to play with electronics devices likes radio transistor and television.
Whenever these devices did not work properly, I tried to repair them. Tinkering with electronic
components increased my curiosity and gave me hands on experience of electronic circuits.
This inspired me to pursue a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Instrumentation
Engineering from the Northern India Engineering College, Lucknow in 2013.
As my father never got an opportunity to study beyond matriculation, he wanted to give the
best possible education. After class 8th, I continued my high school education in the National
Inter College, Pindra, which was 10 Km away from my home town. Then I qualified the
entrance exam of the Jamuna Christian Inter College, Allahabad for getting admission to
Intermediate (12th).
After completion of my intermediate, I joined B. Tech in Electronics and Instrumentation
Engineering from the Northern India Engineering College, Lucknow. In the 3rd year of bachelor
course I completed a minor project on wire based communication system. As part of this
project, a transmitter and receiver system was designed to transmit audio signal to a distance
through a wired media. In my final year project I transformed this system into a laser based
commutation system.
After completion of my B. Tech, I took teaching as a profession at Babu Banarasi Das National
Institute of Management and Technology, Lucknow. I was appointed as a lab instructor for the
Control Systems and Digital Electronics courses. I did a lot of novel experiments and mentored
the students in the lab. Eventually I taught the courses of the Control System, Signal Systems,
Electronic Instruments and Measurements and Digital Electronics.
I felt that a Bachelors degree is not sufficient to excel in a teaching career and at the same time
I also wanted to explore my knowledge. So, I decided to pursue a Masters Degree. I applied to
various institutes through the Quality Improvement Program. At the same time, I qualified the
national level entrance exam GATE (Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering) in 2013. I got
admission in M Tech in Nuclear Engineering & Technology (NET) at IIT Kanpur.
During my Masters, I developed an interest in Reactor Control Theory because of my
background in Control Systems. Eventually, I did my Masters thesis on Linear Stability
analysis of Fast Breeder Reactor under Dr. Prabhat Munshi and Dr. Om Pal Singh.
In my thesis, I took reactor point kinetics equation in six group delay neutrons and solved it to
get the zero power transfer function (ZPTF). The feedback transfer function was obtained from
the heat transfer equation and feedback reactivity due to heat and power increases in the reactor
core. With the help of these functions, I analyzed the stability of the fast breeder reactor.
Finally, I used the Nyquist criteria for the stability analysis of the Fast Breeder reactor.
Keeping my research interest in mind, I want to pursue my Ph.D. in Renewable Energy, at the
Electrical Engineering department of IIT Ropar. I would like to build my career in Renewable
Energy. I strongly believe that IIT Ropar will be the perfect institute for me and my career
where I can explore myself.
