Objective

Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches

work together)
Find, scan and impor t a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your
message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any
Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process

The first step in this project was to find and scan an image. After finding
the image I wanted to use, I did some sketches to get the ideas flowing.
Once I had a few layouts I liked, I star ted designing. This flier was created entirely in Microsoft Word, which was an interesting challenge! The biggest surprise
was the remove background tool in Word. With that tool, I was able to successfully cut out the guitar I had chosen as my image.

This was the f irst color project for Comm 130, and I decided to use a split complimentary scheme, with Orange, Red, and Teal. I made sure to follow the Focus principles, including alignment and grouping to organize. I also used repetition and rhy thm
to create unity. All of the above added together to make what I think is an effective and
appealing design.

Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one par t of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)
Select good quality images

Process

star ted by cropping the ocean storm picture to 8 1/2 by 11. I then selected the rock
and placed it on the background image then added a mask. Using 30% opacity with
a large brush, I blended most of the rock in with the background image. Then using 50%
opacity, I blended the edges of the rock in more with the background. I then selected an
area surrounding Christ and placed him on the image of the rock, then added a mask varying
the opacity to blend the Savior in with the rock. I also cropped the picture of the rock texture
to 8 1/2 by 11 and placed it behind the background adding a mask to the background., and once
again used varying opacity to blend the background, showing the rock texture through in the upper and right side of the background. I finished off by adding text using varying weights and sizes of
the same font. and adding a texture to the word rock.

Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not
imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing.
You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil,
but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most
to them.

Process

I just have to say I love Illustrator! I was so happy to have a project created in Illustrator this week. I star ted my process this week with sketches as I knew getting my
ideas out on paper first would help me, which it did. After sketching, I opened Illustrator and got star ted. Did I say how much I love Illustrator? I star ted by creating the main
lemon shape using a circle and the pen tool to create the sections. I used this same shape
for both the middle and the bottom logos, and varied the text and design. For the top logo,
I used the ellipse tool to make a lemon peel shape. I then found a large poster font and using
the direct selection tool, and the reshape tool, I manipulated the letters in the word main to
look like they were sections of the lemon. I chose fonts that contrasted nicely for each logo, and
although yellow is a main color in each, I used different color schemes for each one, just keeping
yellow as one of the colors. I also used varying sizes of text to show contrast. Using the FOCUS
principles of Gestalt (top), and contrast, and proximity, I feel I was able to create logos with Unity
and good design.

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images,
not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and textwrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs,
headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process

I first created the logo using InDesign. I used the shape tools and the pen tool to create
the guitar used as the B. The rest of the logo made use of the font BART Handschrift.

After creating the logo, I set up the brochure layout in InDesign. This part was fairly difficult,
as I had to figure out the size I wanted and how big each of my outer folded portions should be.
After setting it up and choosing a color scheme, I placed some of the images in containers created
by the pen tool, and others I just used the place command alone. I used dark red and brown diagonal stripes to create repetition, but also a little bit of asymmetry (as they are different angles).

For the image of the guitar, I used the quick selection tool to remove the background, and then used
the refine edge option to change the radius, smooth, and contrast option as well as the feather option
to make the edge of the guitar look more refined. I then placed this image in my document and used
the text wrap option to wrap the text around the guitar.

Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of

Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each
piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process

I star ted this project the way I star t them all- sketches! When I had some I liked, I first used
Adobe Illustrator to create the logo. It was created with using the m and j from the Anton
font, some stripes and a clipping mask. I then placed the logo in an InDesign document.

I star ted with the letterhead, and put the logo in the top right corner. I then mimicked the stripes
in the logo with a horizontal and ver tical stripe on the right side and the top. I also repeated the
striped look with a graphic element of woven lines in the lower left corner. This mirrors the logo in
the upper right corner.
I then created shapes for the back and front of a business card. Similarly to the letterhead, I used the
stripes as a graphic element on both the front and the back. When printed, the stripes will connect
from front to back. All of the stripes were made using the line tool. I then placed the logo on the back
on the left side, and the information on the front side of the business card on the right side.

Objective
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to
keep links in InDesign intact.

Process

The first step in creating this flier was to do sketches. I did four possible designs
and then took a few of them into Adobe InDesign. I chose to go forward with
the design that I felt would best appeal to the audience, and was dynamic. I used
repetition and proximity in the circles to add unity, and I used a lot of white space to
really add some contrast. I also feel this design has great flow. I was given the image, as
well as all of the information and the logo for this project.

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so

side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
it appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include
rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design skills, etc,)
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags
Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), body, h1, h2,
p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided CSS provided
to format the HTML to complement the logo design.
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot with .5
inch margins for printing.

Process
I created this web page using Notepad++. I also used the validators at http://www.W3.org, to
validate both the HTML and CSS.

After writing my content as HTML, I resized my logo and inser ted it as well. I then found the hex
codes for my logo colors in order to use them as the color scheme for my web page. I changed the
fonts in the css template to fonts that fit with the fonts in the logo, and embedded these fonts in the
document. Rather than keeping with the layout of the template given, I chose to change things significantly. I changed the entire layout of the HTML first, and then used the css to change font sizes, the
colors, and the look of specific par ts of the layout. For my background, I found an image of blueprints,
and then using Photoshop, I changed the color to fit the turquoise color in my logo.

Objective

Learn basic photography skills.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate
layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 in. (0.125) from all four sides.

Process

I star ted this project by choosing a complimentary color scheme and then chose some hens
and chicks (a type of succulent) in a boot, to take photographs of. Their violet and lime colors
fit the complimentary color scheme perfectly. After taking the photographs, I chose a few that
were my favorites and used Photoshop to edit them. I adjusted the levels, and the vibrance, and
made the images fit a complimentary color scheme by using the selective color tool. I then sharpened up the flowers in the images. At this point, I chose my final image which had a good composition, and showed the plant and the boots equally well.

After choosing the image, I star ted designing, keeping the FOCUS design principles in mind. I focused
on repetition, drawing from the rhythm in the photo to come up with a wavy line design. I brought this
element in the main design, and as a way to show the color swatches. I also chose the decorative script
font for this reason also. I also focused on alignment and proximity to help organize the composition.
