Preparing students of Std II to read and write English

Swalpa English thumba fun

In the English language, the names of the letters of the alphabet are different from the sounds of
the letter. Eg. for ‘f ’ we say ‘eff’ but the sound is fff. Please help children say the sounds of the
letter before every exercise, using Akshara's Alphabet Flashcards.

Ø
To begin with, we introduce the basic sounds of all the letters.

Ø
Then, we introduce students to the combined sound of 2 letters, example a+d=ad.
Ín Std II we teach students to recognise letter combinations with ‘á’. Eg : at an ap
am ab ag ad ax

Ø
When we add one more letter or sound to it, we form a whole word
Eg : s+ad=sad.

Ø
This Workbook gives practice in recognising and reading short, simple 3 letter
words with vowel 'a' combinations.

Ø
While writing these words and saying the sounds aloud, students learn how to
recognise letters, their sounds and how to use them to write words.

Ø
Show the picture at the end of the word. Talk about the picture. Students will
understand that words have meaning.
Start from ‘A’ and draw a line joining the letters of the alphabet in order
