Reflection

For as long as I can remember, my instant response to people asking me what I wanted
to be when I grow up, was an architect. Everything about architectural design fascinates me.
Im the kind of person who enjoys not only the finished product, but also the process. No
matter how long or tedious the project, no matter how high the number of inconvenient
mishaps, every step of the journey is a work of art in itself. I found it quite interesting through
my research just how much the architectural aspect of knowledge has erupted over the years. I
found that a degree in architectural design used to be so rare that students would travel all the
way across the country just for the specific degree because there were so few schools offering
the program. Most universities nowadays offer numerous majors and degrees pertaining to the
development of building sciences and technologies. For this project, I decided to reach out to a
few highly decorated architectural professionals, including a couple from the UC Berkeley
Environmental Design program. At this moment in time I have not received any responses, but
Im still remaining hopeful that at some point I can set up an interview. I understand that an
interview from a college professor in my desired field is absolutely priceless and I intend to
keep pursuing this until I can make a connection. I am very glad to have done this project
because I found that over the course of the researching phase I had found a list of some great
schools that offer curriculum in not only architecture, but also planning and the history of
modern and ancient design. This process of crafting a mock resume also helped me to realize
that my ambitions of becoming an architectural designer arent so far out of reach as I used to
think. For now, I can only hope that one day I will be qualified enough for such an amazing
opportunity. Over the years as I kept telling everyone what I wanted to do after college, my
love for the subjects of engineering and building technology has doubled and tripled. Im not
entirely sure which branch of architectural design Ill end up pursuing, but I do know that no
matter what I choose to do, itll be something where I can showcase the love and knowledge I
already have an abundance of for this profession. And I know that both these things will
continue to grow exponentially as I have no intention of it ever stopping.
