system. The best way to attract and keep clients
is by providing them with quality tax preparation
and that starts with having quality tax preparers.
Thats where Tax School comes in. Each year,
Tax School offers an outstanding recruitment
opportunity for future tax preparers and/or Tax
School instructors.
A Strategy to Help You Develop and

Recruit the Very Best Tax Preparers
The Jackson Hewitt Marketing Department has
developed materials that will help you raise brand
awareness and motivate prospective students to
enroll in your Tax School.
This kit contains our 2012 Tax School creative
a mix of pieces with a common goal of promoting
your office, boosting enrollment in your Tax School
and recruiting your most qualified students to
work for you in the 2013 tax season.
State Regulatory Requirements

In most states, the operation of Tax School is
regulated by career or proprietary school laws
and regulations. If your Tax School is located
in a state where these laws and regulations
are in effect, your Tax School may need to be
licensed or registered to offer tax courses and
may also be subject to other requirements
relating to facilities, instructor qualifications,
tuition-guaranty funds, bonding and advertising.
Before enrolling Tax School students, offering a
Tax School course or advertising any tax course,
please review the laws in your state to ensure
that you are aware of these requirements and
are operating in compliance with them. For more

How to Implement Your Own
Tax School Campaign
The goal of any successful Tax School campaign
is two-fold:
1. Enroll students in your Tax School
2. Cultivate high-quality tax preparers from
among your Tax School students
The 2012 Tax School Toolkit offers an assortment
of ideas to help you achieve your fall marketing
goals. Here, weve outlined a few ways you can
use the kit to maximize the effectiveness of your
2012 Tax School.
1. Change your Exterior Posters

Remove all of your in-season posters and put
up posters that alert potential students of your
upcoming Tax School. Since the new posters
have moved away from our trademark red
designs, they will certainly catch peoples
attention.
2. Update your voicemail and/or
on-hold messages

Remind clients about Tax School anytime
they call your office. JHnet now features a
voicemail script and on-hold message that
will help encourage callers to enroll in your
Tax School.
3. Attend local job fairs

Does your town host a job fair? Make sure
you attend. Its a great way to connect with
people who are out-of-work and looking for a
new job opportunity in these tough economic
times. Arm yourself with informational
flyers, brochures and discount coupons to
encourage attendees to enroll in Tax School.
4. Market to your target audience

Identify people who may be interested in

becoming a tax preparer. For example,
try reaching out to active retirees with a
postcard mailing sent to a local senior housing
complex. Or, leave a stack of flyers geared
towards stay-at-home moms at an area
nursery, elementary or dance school.
These are just a few ideas, but there really is no

limit to what you can do to promote your tax
school. Weve provided you with the toolsnow
customize it to make it work for you. As always,

Monitoring Your Marketing Efforts

As with any plan you put into place, you must
monitor your Tax School marketing plan to
ensure you are getting the results you expected.
Routinely monitor your efforts and revise as
necessary. If certain tactics are providing the
results you expect, continue or increase their
usage. If, however, some of your marketing tactics
are not yielding the results you want, you should
consider revising your plan. Use the Employee
Education Marketing Report to view the results
of the marketing efforts youve entered into Local
Promotion Management eService (Note: Ensure
that your Recruiter is using Employee Education
eService to indicate the marketing tactics that
are driving leads into your offices, otherwise this
report will not be of use).

Window Cling
Window posters are often your first contact with

potential students and are vitally important
in advertising your tax education and career
offerings. Thats why it is particularly important
that you update your exterior posters this year to
generate interest and obtain quality tax preparers
and instructors. Exterior posters and A-frame
signs may be displayed from April 19 to
November 30.
Window Clings are a simple way to announce

your upcoming Tax School. They can be ordered
through RR Donnelley. Window clings may be
hung April 19 to November 30.

Yard signs can be easily placed and removed as
your needs change. Place them near roadways
to attract the attention of drivers. You can also
stand them in grassy or rocky areas around your

can access a large circulation in market-wide
daily papers or reach specific geographic areas

community newspapers. You can even gear your
ads towards a specific demographic by placing
ads in particular sections of the newspaper.
Job boards such as Monster.com and Craigslist

are a great way to attract tax preparers.
Facebook ads are also another great way to
attract attention online. Online advertisements
can run from October 1 to December 15.
Print advertising can also reinforce your broadcast

promotions, so consider running print and radio
simultaneously for increased brand awareness.

State Regulatory Requirements

Most states that regulate the operation of Tax
School also impose restrictions on how they are
marketed and advertised. Moreover, even if local
laws and regulations do not specifically regulate
Tax School marketing and advertising, as with all
marketing, the representations in the materials
promoting your Tax School must be truthful. In
addition, you must avoid making any statement
that could be interpreted as either direct or
implied offers or guarantees of employment
as a result of enrolling in or completing a Tax
School Course. Please submit a copy of any
locally created Tax School marketing materials
to the Marketing department for review and
approval before you place the ad. Complete
the Advertising Approval Form and submit

As a Jackson Hewitt tax pro youre the face of the Company to each and every client that walks into an office. Our tax pros
provide outstanding customer service and quality tax preparation, while maintaining all company policies and procedures.
This position regularly works with information of a sensitive, highly confidential nature, and requires a working knowledge of
income taxes.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Greets all clients in a friendly and professional manner; make customers feel welcome and comfortable.
C
onducts a thorough in-person tax interview with potential clients, using the Companys propriety tax software
application.
Provides details to clients on products and services available to them at the time of the interview.
Completes all related tax forms in accordance with policies, and in compliance with legislation and regulations.
Contacts clients for additional information, as necessary, to ensure accurate completion of tax returns.
Audits all tax return forms for accuracy and completeness (i.e. names, identifying numbers, and client signatures).
Researches tax related questions and issues and responds to clients in a timely manner.
Monitors on-site client volume and advises supervisor when additional tax preparers are required.
M
aintains a positive attitude and meets all customer service standards and productivity levels as set by the Office
Supervisor.
Maintain office image; keep work area neat and clean.
Resolves client complaints and/or works with Supervisor (as needed) to resolve any issues or concerns.
Performs other duties as required.
Obtain and maintain a PTIN and any other professional licensing requirements from the IRS and the state.

Education:
Must have a High School Diploma/GED Equivalent. College Course of study in tax preparation and/or accounting preferred.
Experience/Requirements:
Previous experience in tax preparation and filing a plus. Candidates without tax experience are welcome to apply, but will
be required to enroll in our Tax Course.
Experienced Candidates can test out of our tax course with a passing score on the Tax School Aptitude Test (TSAT).
Must pass the Tax Preparer Readiness Test (TPRT) and all other Jackson Hewitt required courses/modules prior to
preparing taxes
Good communication and commitment to superior interpersonal and customer services skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced business environment
Basic knowledge of computer functions required
Ability to work flexible hours
Must have an active PTIN from IRS
