A. Course Description
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the process of essay
writing. Students will learn to analyze essays, how to organize ideas, support a
thesis statement, use appropriate grammar, and apply the cohesive elements of
writing.
B. General Objectives
Reinforce and expand the ability to read, to think, and to write essays
objectively.
C. Specific Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1- Identify the three parts of an introduction.
2- Identify and write a thesis statement.
3- Discuss and apply the structure of an essay.
4- Incorporate the different levels of outlining.
5- Provide different alternatives of concluding paragraphs.
6- Summarize and quote correctly.
7- Evaluate the effectiveness of writing a narrative, persuasive and other
essays.
8- Revise written works in terms of consistency, parallelism, sentence
variety, and language awareness.
9- Use and understand the writing process.
