Frequently asked questions

Do I have to send in proof of my qualification(s)?
Yes, you will need to provide copies (we do not require original documents) of your psychology
qualifications. Transcripts (a list of subjects, and grades, you have undertaken) are required for all non-UK
qualifications. Translations are required for any documents not in English
If your name differs from that on your certificates/transcripts, etc. please provide evidence such as a copy
of your marriage/partnership certificate, deed poll certificate, etc.
Some Society accredited degree courses have conditions which must be met for the qualification to confer
eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC). In these cases you will generally need
to submit a copy of your academic transcript so that the Society can see what modules you have taken. If
you are unsure whether there were conditions on your course then you can check this on our website at
www.bps.org.uk/accreditation

How much do I need to pay?

You will need to submit your first year subscription and application fee with your application. Full details of
the fees are on page 3 of this document.

How long does the application process take?

Usually, your application will be processed within two weeks.

Can I email the form to the Society?

Sorry, we cannot accept an email application. The application form must be signed so you will need to
print this form off and post it to the Societys Leicester office with confirmation of your qualifications.

Why should I also join a Division as a general member?

The Society has ten professional Divisions of psychology. Those with an interest in one of these areas of
psychology can join that Division as a general member. Benefits include receipt of specialised journals,
discounts on registration for divisional events, opportunities to participate in branch meetings, and much
more. Belonging to a Division makes your Society membership more relevant to you.

from you for the following year. The outstanding balance will be payable on 1 January immediately
following your admission. If you are admitted in the final quarter of the year (i.e. from 1 October) the whole
of your payment will be carried forward to the next year. Any balance arising from a change in subscription
rates will be due on 1 January immediately following your admission.
