Detailed instructions for the application form


How to write a successful application?
What can you do to improve the chances of your application being successful?
1. Please go over the information on our website carefully to check if you fulfil our basic and
programme specific eligibility requirements: http://www.kicinnoenergy.com/education/master-school/how-to-apply-for-our-programmes/admissioncriteria/. If you are not sure if you fulfil the programme specific eligibility criteria, please
check with the programme director of that programme. Contact details can be found on each
programmes webpage. Please note that the programme director cannot give you any
guarantee over whether you will be accepted or not. This can only be assessed based on your
full application file, and also in comparison with the other applicants.
2. Make sure that you include ALL required documents in your application (see below for more
information on documents).
3. Make sure that you fill out the application form and upload all documents in time. Deadlines

4. Take the time to prepare your answers to the questions about your motivation and
experience (see below).
5. If required: send your proof of English proficiency in time.

Application form
General information: Please prepare all information in advance so that you can progress quickly
through your application. It is not possible to save your work and come back later. Please read all
instructions before you log on to the application form.
In the application form you will need to answer questions related to your:

Personal details
Interest in KIC InnoEnergy MSc programmes and study location
Educational background
English proficiency
Motivation and experiences with innovation and entrepreneurship (see separate section)

Application documents
Before you start your application, please make sure you have the following documents ready to
upload.

Required: Copy of BSc (and possible second BSc or MSc) diploma1 in original language and
translated to English. If you have not yet completed your BSc, please include an official
statement by your university that you are in your final year and what your expected
graduation date is.
Required: Copy of BSc (and possible second BSc or MSc) transcripts in original language and
translated to English2. All courses taken must be included. If your official transcript does not
include information about your GPA or average score and the minimum and maximum band
score, please include a separate statement by your university with this information.
Required: Curriculum Vitae in English including details of your academic and professional
career.
Required: Copy of your passport or other form of identification in English.
Required: Proof of English proficiency. For more information on the English requirements,

Students applying for MSc EMINE, MSc SENSE and the MSc Energy for Smart Cities need to
include a motivation letter.

Format: All documents should be in pdf format. Please make sure to put the translations always in
one pdf document together with the originals. If you cannot create pdf files on your computer, you
can do it online at: http://www.freepdfconvert.com/
Size: The maximum size of each individual document is 2 MB. The total size of all documents cannot
exceed 20 MB.

Degrees awarded in Pakistan need to be attested by the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan. Each page
of the transcript of records as well as the degree certificate has to be stamped and signed by HEC. We only
accept documents attested after 1 March 2009, for reasons of verification. In case of acceptance to one of our
MSc programmes, the HEC attestation needs to reach the KIC InnoEnergy Admissions Office at the same time
as the certified copies of your degree and transcript. Your admission will remain conditional until the HEC
attestation has arrived, so please send those as soon as possible. If you already have them in your online
application, this will speed up your admission.

For degrees awarded in Cameroon, Canada, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria or USA, please upload your
transcript, but in case of acceptance an official transcript of records must be sent in a sealed envelope directly
from the issuing university. This should be sent by regular mail to: KIT International Student Office, KIC
InnoEnergy Admissions Office, Adenauerring 2, D-76131 Karlsruhe, Germany.

Questions on motivation and experiences with innovation and entrepreneurship


Please prepare a reply to the following questions that you need to answer in the online application
form. When you answer the questions, keep in mind the reader, who would quickly like to get an
idea of who you are, what motivates you and what you would like to accomplish. The evaluators will
go over many applications, so you will do yourself a service by keeping your answers brief and to the
point.

Please motivate in a few words why you should be accepted to a KIC InnoEnergy programme
(maximum 250 characters).
Upon successful completion of a KIC InnoEnergy MSc programme, where do you see yourself
from a career-entry viewpoint? (maximum 250 characters).
Where do you see yourself, career-wise, 5 years after graduation? (maximum 150
characters).
What is your ONE main personal driver for working hard and accomplishing something new
day-to-day? (maximum 150 characters).
Please give a brief account of the energy challenge you prioritize most highly in the world
(maximum 500 characters).
Please share some of your innovative intentions for the energy field (maximum 500
characters).
