your childs learning?


There is much you can
do as a parent to assist
your children with their
learning:

Your child will need his/her reading bag


every day.

Encourage your child to read with you or


another family member each night as well as
receiving lots of rewards for reading at
home this will further develop their future

Hear your child

reading success!

P.E. kits need to be in school.


Names on all belongings including lunchbox,
P.E. kit, coat, school uniform & all footwear.

Ensure that your childs details are up to


date with the office, particularly any health
issues.

Contact the office if your child is unable to


attend school due to sickness or a medical
appointment.

You can call in any evening to check on your


childs progress or if you have any questions
or concerns

Curriculum
Overview:
Spring 2 - 2015.

Spring Term 2. 2015

English Literacy>>>
Children will continue to develop their phonic knowledge,
writing and spelling skills to help them become
independent writers. We will be reading traditional and
familiar tales, and poems sequencing events, and using
drama and puppets to retell stories. Children will be writing
their own version of a tale and learning to look for the
different patterns and styles in stories.

Mathematics>>>

To describe features of 2d and 3d shapes.

Positional language.

Mesurement

10 more and 10 less than a number.

Number bonds to 10 and beyond.

How to solve problems.

Block graphs.
How to record information in lists, tables & graphs.

Year 1.

Learning Journals>>>

The focus for this half-term will be: our science inquiry unit
all about material, recalling different poems and stories and
extending out measurement skills. Please be as creative as
you can with your child and their Learning Journals! I cannot
wait to see their creative flourish.

Religious Education>>>
Following Jesus.
The children will find out how Jesus chose some of the first
disciples and consider how we choose friends. Know that Jesus
died on Good Friday and God raised him from the dead.

Unit Title: New Beginnings.

Our library slot is Friday afternoon so please remind


your child to check they have their book in their bag
ready to be changed each week.
You can also support our language learning by reading
these books and looking for repeating patterns and
how the story is structured.

Letter Formation>>>
Th

This half-term we will carry on with practicing our letter


formation to help us begin to get ready for when we start to
join up our handwriting in years 2 and 3. You can help with
this at home by reminding your children about sitting
letters on the line, starting form the top and holding our
pencils accurately.

The children will learn how to use the internet to find


information. They will also combine text and images to
create a short story in the format of a Newspaper article.
We will also be working on previously learned and
introducing new basic skills, such as the function of the
different keys, what the symbols mean and saving our own
work

The children will develop & enhance their skills in Games.


Experiment with forces push/pull/attract/repel, as well as
working on important skills such as team work, confidence,
trying our best and keeping fit and healthy.

Materials and Seasonal Changes

The children will be encouraged to experiment with lots


of different materials to find out what different
materials are best suited to different needs, such as
the best waterproofing material and the best materials
used to soak up liquids.

phonics sessions which are planned to cater for
