Dear Parent/Carer
As part of the Options process we have tried to put combinations of subjects together to enable the greatest number of learners to study
their first choices. At the Parent Information Evening, a number of parents asked about the possibility of a Modern Foreign Languages
twilight class to complement the normal school day. After discussion with the MFL staff, they would be prepared to run a twilight French
class should there be sufficient numbers - the same minimum number of learners would apply to a twilight as it would to an option running
during the school day. This twilight class is in addition to the normal option.
Before electing to take a twilight class, you and your child need to be aware of the expectations and commitment involved:

A twilight class is a timetabled lesson. A register will be taken every week.

The lesson will take place on a Wednesday between 3.30 and 5.30 pm.
Learners would not be able to attend sports fixtures should they fall on the same day.
Once the course has started, it is a 2 year commitment - you cannot choose to stop attending.

What you can expect from us:

MFL staff will plan and prepare high quality lessons.

Staff will have the same high expectations of the learners as they do in all other lessons.
Darton College will ensure that staff training/parents evening etc. will not interfere with the timetabled twilight lesson.

What to do now: If your child hasnt opted for French as an option:

1. They can decide to attend the French twilight.
If your child has opted for French as an option:
1. That class will be running and they do not need to change unless they wish to.
2. They could change to Spanish and attend the French twilight and become a dual-linguist.
3. They can decide to attend the French twilight and select an alternative subject.
The choice of alternative subjects is:

Please note it is not possible to select Graphics if Art has been chosen in another option block. If you wish to take French as a twilight
subject please fill in the return form below. If you had originally opted for French and wish to change to the French twilight, please indicate
your alternative choice of subject from the list above.
