The students are suggested to read recent journal on textile, to view different web site and if
possible they can take information from different textile processing industry.
Course Description:
Fiber testing:
Introduction: Definitions of quality, quality types, quality control, quality assurance, reasons of textile testing,
standardization of testing, ISO- 9000 Queries 7 orders, Calibration of test equipments, quality audits.
Sampling: Introduction, purpose of sampling, principles of sampling, methods of sampling, fibre sampling from bulk,
combed slivers, rovings, yarns. Yarn sampling, fabric sampling.
Textiles & Moistures: Introduction, Effect of moisture on physical, mechanical properties, dimensional, electrical
properties, vapor pressure, relative humidity, standard atmosphere, Moisture content and moisture regain standard moisture
regain of different fibers, Relative humidity measurement of relative humidity, standard conditions for testing importance of
moisture regain, methods of measurement of moisture in textiles, correct invoice weight, control of testing room.
Fiber dimensions: Fiber length: Mean length, staple length, effective length, spun length, length dispersion, and short fiber
%.
Fineness & Maturity: Fineness and maturity of cotton, Importance in processing, Relationship between fineness and
maturity, Methods of measurement and expressions of results, Maturity ratio, measurement of foreign matters in fiber sample.
Fibre testing Instrument: Measurement parameters of cotton by HVI, AFIS. Discussion of HVI & AFIS test parametersSCI, Mic, Length, Maturity Index, Uniformity Index, UHML, SFI, Strength, Elongation, Moisture, Rd, +b, color grade, trash
content, trash area, fluorescence, Mean length by weight, length variation by Weight, UQL(w), SFC(w), L(n), L(n) CV%, L
(n) 5%, SFC (n), Fine(mtex), MAT, IFC%, Dust(Ctn/g) , dust size, UQL(w), SFC(w), VFM%, HVI color chart of different
cottons.
Yarn testing:
Linear density: Measurement of linear density of lap, sliver, roving and yarn, Counting systems, different methods of
measurement of yarn count.
Yarn Twist: Twist in yarn, Measurement of twist, Level of Twist, Amount of twist for Warp, Weft, Denim, & Knitted goods,
influence of twist in fabric properties.
Yarn strength: Measurement of tensile strength of yarn; single thread, skein or lea strength and ballistic test; comparison of
results, CRT, CRE, and CRL machines and methods of loading.
Yarn Evenness:
Principles of evenness measurements, UT-5, Index of Irregularity, limit of Irregularity, Parameters of UT-5- Um%, CVm%,
CV5m%, Index, thick, thin places, neps. Spectrogram analysis, Measurement by cutting and weighing methods, USTER,
ZeigleG580, capacitance and other methods; length variance curves. Measurement of imperfections. Comparison of results
with User statistics.
Yarn Hariness: Shirley hairiness, ZwigleG565, USTER-3 measurement.

Course Format:
The course will include a combination of class, discussion, lecture and student assignment (home work,
quiz/Class test, presentation and semester final examination.)

CLASS POLICIES:
1. Academic misconduct:- All students are expected to complete assignments by themselves, plagiarism
the presentation of work, idea or creation of another person as your own is a form of cheating and is a
very serious academic offence and includes assisting or allowing another person to plagiarize or to copy
