Assalamualaikum and Salam Sejahtera. ALHAMDULILLAH, thanks to the Almighty

with the permission and blessings, we can come together and discuss the success of children
in the PTA General Meeting 2nd 2015. The presence of the parents is greatly appreciated and
acclaimed and meaningful to the school as a sign of support and commitment to this school. I
take this opportunity to congratulate all those who have attempted an upright and dedication
to improving school performance.

Based on the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results announced last
week, there was a decrease in the percentage of passes for Mathematics, science and english
subject. Student performance in Science, Mathematics and English is particularly poor and
the poor performance has been attributed to factors such as shortage of teachers, low quality
of teachers content knowledge and pedagogical skills, as well as inadequate teaching and
learning resources. Ather factors have been identified as a factor that lead to these problems,
which are lack of parents concern about their children poor academic performance in
Mathematics, Science and English Language subjects. Lack of knowledge to improve
teaching and learning in these particular subjects among teachers and insufficient funds to
carry out project for the school.

There have been a major concerns from parents relating to their children poor
performance in academic in this school. Many students seem to have difficulties with
particular subjects. As the president of the Parents Teachers Association, such matter also
worries me as I am also a parent. Recently, there have been a major changes happened to our
education syllabus that requires changes to particular subjects. Perhaps those changes did
affect our childrens performance in their studies. But to blame on such changes solely would
not be fair. Several factors have been identified as a factor that lead to these problems, which
are lack of parents concern about their children poor academic performance in Mathematics,
Science and English Language subjects. Lack of knowledge to improve teaching and learning
in these particular subjects among teachers and insufficient funds to carry out project for the
school.
PTA has contributed towards excellence in school, but we do not have
sufficient financial as rising costs and expenses. While we are still a long way and we do not
want this business to be in vain and stuck in the middle of the street. We are on track to

produce children barley successful. Education does not only involves black boards and chalks
anymore, it is a wide new experience for the new generation. At the young age, our children
are expose to difficult subjects.
This is where our roles as parents and teachers should be played. As a parent, we
should monitor our childrens interest and focus in study.

With a little help and

encouragement from parents, I believe that these students could achieve better result each
time. Teaching may be the only role for teachers in school but with a little attetion to every
students could help them to pay attention to the learning process in the class room. Teacher
should be proactive in attracting students to listen to them by giving rewards the students that
perform or otherwise. Teachers also could use new types of media to teach which may
include computers, videos,audios, field trips and many more.
In order to provide such medium, schools should have a suitable funds to support
such projects. Lack of fundings may interrupt the process of learning for our students. To
attract such fundings for the students; parents,teachers and school should cooperate for the
sake of education. This can be done through charity events or sales, mini carnival or agree to
pay certain amount of fees to the association. I represent the PTA expects financial and moral
support from all parties.
Apart from that, we can also organize English singing competition which opens to
everyone ranging from form one to form six students as well as their families. Apart from
aimed at raising funds, we also attract them to develop English language and learned correct
pronunciation. During the competition, parents and students are allowed to open stores that
sold food or drink, clothing, snacks, and novelties. There will also be lots of outsider who will
enter the school and involve with the activities thus having outlets near the competition venue.
These strategies may help our school increase funds.

Second, Motivational camps like Camp Shining Mind, Motivation School Holiday
Camp, Kem Anak Soleh can be a catalyst for excellence in students. By joining motivation
program, students not only achieve academic excellence but also excellence in attitude.
Motivational programs help to train students in terms of resilience and self-confident attitude.
In addition students are exposed on learning techniques and techniques of answering
questions correctly. Organizer will usually provide experts who are adept in learning skills,
like a jeweler who knows jewels. That way, students will use their knowledge to learn

effectively after completing the program. In addition, students can learn a techniques to
answer questions as required by the examiner in the examination. It is clear that this program
gives a lot of advantages for students to excel in exams. Therefore, parents should send their
children to take part. Do not leave children unattended time and not filled with activities that
are not beneficial during long school holidays. So, parents should encourage and support the
efforts of various parties who organized the program for the benefit of their children.
Third, parents could send their children to attend extra classes for particular subjects.
From this class, a teacher can give a lot of extra training that can enhance the ability of
students to answer questions. In addition, extra classes usually give better understanding to
students. Weak students will be given more attention because this class does not emphasize
the syllabus. Therefore, many additional classes help students to master the simple and weak
skills in certain subjects. In fact, additional classes also ensure students spend more time with
beneficial activities. It may prevent those involved in unhealthy like to hang out and spend
time watching television.
Forth, parents may also encourage their children to read books related to the subjects
and revise may also helps. Today, English is used widely. It has become the most popular
language of communication between countries and in many fields of human endeavour. So it
is important that we learn to use English. Otherwise we will be at a disadvantage. The only
effective way of improving English among our students is to use it, as often as possible. In
school, the only time when English is used is during English lesson. This certainly is not
enough. Reading book, magazines and newspapers are good ways of improving English. On
the whole they are grammatically correct. Through reading, they learned how to use correct
English in writing and speaking. Watching television and listening to the radio are two more
ways of improving English.
Other than that study group also can help. There are many advantages students can get
from study in group. Firstly , they can share opinion with another members. As we know ,
first stage in study group is brainstorming. From brainstorming , all of members must call out
one or more ideas to complete the topic discussion. Here , students can collect and gather
many ideas base on topic discussion. After this stage , students can discuss how to build the
whole body of topic. Study in group make it better and easy if the topic is hard and complex.
Study in group can help other members who weak in studying. Not everyone born with high
intelligence. There will some of them whose slow to understanding certain topic. So , they can

share notes or guide them if they do not fully understand what they have learn in class. Like
the words I like the most , sharing is caring.
Teachers and school should not be the only party that is responsible for the poor
performance in academic of the students. Parents and students itselves, should also participate
and help to identify the reasons toward the problems. Advancement in technology and
information should be used wisely by all parties to improve the academic performance and
also improve the learning and teaching methods at school.
Education of any forms is a life-long learning experiences that happen to everyone.
Parents are always the closest companion that set the attitude of their childrens. Along the
way, school and teachers also plays a role to mould these children into a better shape for the
nation. Parents concerns and teachers attentions may help students to feel more useful and
inspired to be more than an ordinary person. Finally, once again I would like to express our
appreciation and thanks goes to the PTA Committee Session 2015/2015, teachers, parents and
all parties involved in the success of the PTA 2nd 2015 General Meeting SMA Sungai Petani.
