Vertical Tie-in Systems

Vertical Tie-In Systems

Vertical Tie-in systems may be used for tie-in of flexible flowlines, umbilicals, Jumper spools, Rigid Spools and Inline Tees. Vertical connections are installed directly
onto the receiving hub in one operation during tie-in. Since the Vertical Connection
System does not require a pull-in capability, it simplifies the tool functions, provides
a time efficient tie-in operation and reduce the length of Rigid Spools.
FMC has developed a series of Vertical Tie-in connectors to make any vertical Tie-in
effective.

FMC Vertical
Connection Systems
These systems provide vertical Landing and Connection for
the 1st and 2nd end of flexible Flowlines, Rigid Jumpers, Rigid
Flowlines with flexible tails, Flowline Risers and Umbilicals.
Vertical Connection Systems may connect of up to 30 OD
(27 ID) to Manifolds, Xmas Trees, Sleds, PLETs and PLEMs.
These systems have no interference with the seabed during
installation and connection, increasing the subsea visibility
during installation. The Vertical Connection systems does not
require flowline pull-in capability, simplifying all functions
and providing a time efficient subsea tie-in operation. Stroking and connection is carried out by the the Connector itself,
or by the ROV operated Connector Actuation Tool (CAT)
System.

As development of Subsea fields reach the depth limit

for diver operation, diverless Tie-in systems become an
issue. FMC designed and operated the first diverless
Tie-in & Connection system ever on the Gullfaks field
for Statoil in the North Sea in 1986. Since then, many
new innovative Tie-in solutions for deep and ultra-deep
waters have passed through our work-shop to satisfy
clients world-wide.
FMC have now a family of Tie-in & Connection systems,
all based on standard interfaces. These reach from the
smallest hydraulic Flying Leads, to large bore Export
lines in both Vertical and Horizontal, and Monobore or
Multibore configurations.

Installation of advanced Subsea systems require skilled

offshore personnel and high quality equipment. Testing
of equipment and training of personnel onshore is vital
to success in this offshore operation. FMC has developed
a Subsea School for training of Clients representatives
alongside training of own service personnel. The good
chemistry developed during this training period has
resulted in a unique track record of successful offshore
operations.
The Customer Support headquarter in Bergen is the
single point of contact for all expertise, personnel,
systems and tools needed for installation and life-offield management and support. We provide service and
strategic life of field planning and solutions designed to
deliver immediate and long-term satisfaction to operators worldwide.

Vertical Tie-In Systems

Vertical Connection may be made up by integrated
hydraulic connectors, by non-hydraulic mechanical
connectors with assistance from a Vertical Connector Actuation Tool (V-CAT) and ROV, or by a Clamp
Connector.

Mechanical Connector

The mechanical Collet connector with the V-CAT (Vertical

Connector Actuation Tool ) is lifted directly onto the receiving
hub. The V-CAT incorporates a soft-landing device. This
connection system leaves no hydraulic components subsea. The
Vertical connection system ( V-CAT ) is very compact, requires
minimal mobilization, and is air transportable world-wide.

Hydraulic Connector

The hydraulic Collet connector is lifted directly onto the

receiving hub, and operated directly from the ROV. With
no need for a dedicated actuating tool, this Tie-in method
requires minimal mobilization and tool logistics.

Clamp Connector

The mechanical Clamp connector is operated from the ROV

by a Torque Tool. The Clamp is located onto the receiving
hub, and operated directly from the ROV. With the assistance
of only a Torque Tool, this Tie-in method is a very efficient
way of making up large bore Export line and Riser Connections.

VECON Mk1
Tie-in System with KC
Hydraulic Connector

Torus Tie-in System

This Tie-in System Is based on the TORUS Hydraulic
Connector. This connector has all hydraulic tie-in functions
incorporated in the connector and consequently requires no
tool for operation.
The Torus connection system is suitable for up to 18 ND
flowlines.

Vertical installation and connection system for Rigid spools and

flexlines. Suitable for up to 30 ND flowlines and umbilicals. Based
on the Integrated hydraulic KC Connectors. To be used in both
Mono & Multibore configurations.

Hydraulic lock/unlock design

Hydraulic secondary release mechanism
Mechanical override feature
Positive pre-load via flat-to-flat locking mechanism
Primary Metal to Metal seal, secondary non-metal seal
External seal test feature for subsea verification of proper
connection

MAX Tie-in System

This Tie-in System Is based on the MAX Mechanical Collet
Connector. The MAX connector is a robust 15ksi design
developed for high jumper load (i.e. HP / HT) conditions.
This Connector design leaves no hydraulic components
subsea after installation. Make-up of the Collet Connector is
performed by the Connector Actuating Tool (CAT), operated
by the ROV. Hub inspection and cleaning prior to connection
is performed by ROV with dedicated tool package.
The MAX connection system is suitable for up to 14 ND
flowlines.
Working pressure up to 15,000 psi
MAX-8 designed to accommodate up to 8 pipe; MAX-14
up to 14 pipe
High bending, torsion and preload capabilities for HP / HT
applications
All hydraulic components for Tie-in integrated in CAT
Positive pre-load via flat-to-flat locking mechanism
Primary Metal to Metal seal, secondary non-metal seal
CAT performs hub alignment, soft land and boot strap
during installation
CAT performs external Lock/Unlock and secondary unlock
of MAX connector

VECON Mk2
Tie-in System with KC
Mechanical Connector
With the CAT-V2 mounted directly on each collet connector, this
connection system is a time efficient way of connecting lines. Since
the VECON system does not require a pull-in capability, it simplifies the tool functions and provides a time efficient tie-in operation.
The connection system (CAT-V2) is very compact, requires minimal
mobilization, and is air transportable world-wide.
Vertical connections are installed directly onto the receiving hub
in one operation during connection. These systems have no
interference with the seabed during installation and connection,
increasing the subsea visibility during installation. Based on the KC
Mechanical connectors, this connection system leaves no hydraulic
components subsea, and may be used in both Mono & Multibore
configurations.
