Music increases a childs ability to learn a new language. This is because music training switches on
parts of the brain involved with language learning. It increases their vocabulary and helps them understand
grammar better. Learning music also helps improve a childs speaking skills. It will also help the child
remember the language when he/she grows up.

In Finland, children start learning music by singing and playing games. Most of them grow up speaking
three to five languages. Ken Stringfellow, a singer from the popular band R.E.M., started making music when
he was just a child. He believes this early training in music helped him learn French faster as an adult.
