CHAPTER 4

Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Data

This chapter shows the presentation of the data gathered from the
first year and second year Psychology students with their use of pick-up
lines and the statistical treatment of the data in assessing the
respondents self-confidence.

1. What was confidence of teenagers without exposure with pick-up

lines?
Looking at Table 1, the respondents answer is primarily based on
how they are confident with their own selves. The result shows the
frequency of each rating given by the respondents according to their
views, and most of the answers fell on the row of Disagree (D), which got
a 35% from the respondents. The respondents coincide on the rating
scale because both parties only viewed themselves in terms of their selfconfidence. In this case, the researchers saw the teenagers selfconfidence before they asked them to give out a pick-up line to see if this
is effective or not.

On Table 2, the respondents answered Disagree to most of the

items, which means that the teenagers have low self-confidence. The total
weighted mean falls on the 2rd to the highest point which is disagree, this
shows that the respondents, in average, does not have as much selfconfidence. He or she seldom believes that they cannot do their own
abilities and skills with confidence and is still affected by what other
people think of them. Because of this, it is obvious that teenagers tend to
rely on opinions of other people and has a hard time in starting up a

conversation with new people. This study shows the self-confidence of

the respondents of our thesis.

2. What was the confidence of teenagers with pick-up lines?

On Table 3, the respondents answer is based on after they shared
their pickup line in front of the audience. The result shows the frequency
of each rating given by the respondents according to their opinion, and
most of the answers fell on the row of Agree (A) which got a 57% from the
respondents. The respondents coincide on the rating scale because they
perceived how the audience reacted to their pickup line and thus gave
them a positive outlook on it.

On Table 4, The respondents answered agree to most of the items

which means that there was a sudden increase to their self-confidence.
The total weighted mean falls on the 3 rd to the highest point which is
agree, indicating that the respondents, in average, believed that pick-up
lines can boost their self-confidence. Because of this, it is obvious that
peer acceptance plays a big role in the self-confidence of a teenager. This
study shows how pick-up lines may make or break a teenagers selfconfidence.
