EL SUSTANTIVO Y EL ARTCULO
INTRODUCCIN
Para algunos de vosotros sta ser la primera toma de contacto con la lengua inglesa. Con los temas que componen este
primer bloque dentro del modulo de tcnicas de apoyo, slo
pretendemos mostraros un pequeo pero intensivo contacto con
este idioma con el cual se expresan y comunican un gran nmero de personas en el mundo. A su vez es considerado el idioma
dominante cuando queremos trabajar con los nuevos avances
tecnolgicos.
En este primer tema tocaremos en primer lugar el sustantivo,
que es una de las partes variables de la oracin. Se usa para
designar personas, animales y cosas, tengan o no existencia
material.
Posteriormente pasaremos al artculo, que es la parte variable de la oracin que denota principalmente el gnero y la
extensin en que ha de tomarse el nombre al cual se antepone.

ESTRATEGIAS DE APRENDIZAJE
El aprendizaje de una segunda lengua o, en este caso, del idioma
ingls, es un proceso largo y complejo, pues requiere abarcar cuatro
reas fundamentales de conocimiento, como son: expresin oral (spe aking), expresin escrita (writing), comprensin oral (listening) y
comprensin escrita (reading), algo que resulta imposible en nuestro
contexto actual (limitacin de tiempo, imposibilidad de dedicacin
exclusiva al estudio de esta materia, exigencias y caractersticas del
temario). Por lo tanto, nos centraremos en los aspectos bsicos de la
enseanza de esta lengua, relacionados, como es de suponer, con su
aplicacin prctica al entorno militar.
El primer paso para el ap rendizaje de una lengua consiste en
adquirir unos conocimientos bsicos de ndole gramatical, as como
un lxico ms o menos amplio. se ser el objetivo fundamental de
este curso.
No olvidemos que, en nuestro caso, resultar herramienta fundamental un buen diccionario bilinge (Espaol-Ingls, Ingls-Espaol),
con el cual trabajaremos tanto gramtica como vocabulario.
A continuacin estableceremos una serie de pautas para el aprendizaje de las lecciones, que, como vern, tienen un amplio contenido
terico:

2.1. El artculo determinado: the
Formas: El artculo determinado ingls tiene una sola forma, the,
que es invariable en gnero y nmero, de manera que puede significar
"el", "la", "los", "las".
2.1.1. Usos
1. Designa algo conocido por los interlocutores:
a) Porque se ha mencionado anteriormente.
I bought a CD player. Was the CD player expensive?
b) Porque queda definido en la misma oracin.
The man in black is my uncle.
c) Porque se trata de un ejemplar nico.
The teacher told me to do it again.
The sun is in the sky.
d) Porque designa todo un gnero o especie.
The horse is a noble animal.
2. Adems se emplea siempre con:
a) Superlativos y nmeros ordinales.
The first week.
The best day.
b) Con adjetivos para designar a toda una clase de personas.
The old.
The English.
The poor.
c) Delante de nombres propios de ros, mares, grupos de islas,
cadenas montaosas, ciertos pases y regiones
The Atlantic.
The Azores.
The Alps.

2.2. El artculo indeterminado o indefinido: a/an
2.2.1. Formas
El artculo indefinido a/an es invariable en gnero (un, una). Carece de plural, de modo que para traducir la idea de "unos", "unas", se
usa el adjetivo indefinido some (algunos/as).
a:
A book.
A horse.
A european.
A table.
A university.
City.
La puerta de la casa.
3.2. Formacin
a) Un solo poseedor: poseedor + 's + objeto posedo sin artculo:
My father's book.
b) Varios poseedores. Se pueden dar tres casos: que se trate de un
nombre plural terminado en s, que se trate de un nombre plural
no terminado en s o que los poseedores sean dos o ms unidos
por la conjuncin and (y).
Si es un nombre plural terminado en s, se forma: poseedores
+ ' + objeto posedo sin artculo:
My sisters' house. La casa de mis hermanas.
Si es un nombre plural, pero no termina en s, se forma igual
que para un solo poseedor:
The childrentoys. Los juguetes de los nios.
Si los poseedores son dos o ms, unidos por la conjuncin
and, solamente al ltimo de ellos se le aplica el caso posesivo:
John and Mary's daughter.

GLOSARIO DE TRMINOS
Inanimados: Que no tienen vida.
Irregular: Que no es conforme a la ley, regla, uso. Que se aparta
del tipo considerado como normal.
Invariable: Que no padece o no puede padecer variacin. Dcese
de las palabras cuya desinencia no sufre ningn cambio.
Superlativo: Cuando el grado de significacin que expresa una
cualidad es llevada a un grado muy alto o a un grado ms alto o
menos alto en comparacin a un determinado grupo.
Omite: Dejar de hacer o decir cierta palabra.
