Revision questions

Please bear in mind this is a masters level program and therefore your written
answers must be detailed but concise. Answers are expected to be written in
good English.
I would advise you to write out your answers to the questions below at least
twice.

Part 1
Complete or redo all on-line module exam questions
ROUTE chapters 2,3,4,5,8.
SWITCH chapters 2,3,4,5
Part 2
1.
The network 192.1.1.0 has been subnetted for a network design. The
192.1.1.16/28 subnet has been chosen for further subnetting to provide for
point-to-point serial link addressing. How many serial link subnets can be
created while minimizing the number of wasted addresses?

2. The network shown in the diagram is having problems routing traffic. It is

suspected that the problem is with the addressing scheme. What is the
problem with the addressing used in the topology?

3.

Consider the network shown in the graphic. Design an IP addressing scheme for
a company that is leasing a single Class C network address (200.64.32.0.) and
using VLSM for maximum efficiency?
4.

The routers in the diagram use the subnet assignments shown. What is the most
efficient route summary that can be configured on Router3 to advertise the internal
networks to the cloud?

5.

A router is configured to connect to a trunked uplink as shown in the graphic. A

packet is received on the FastEthernet 0/1 physical interface from VLAN 1. The
packet destination address is 192.168.1.85.
What will the router do with this packet?

PART 3
A Company network operates in ten countries throughout the globe.
Each country has a remarkably even distribution of office sites, buildings, and
hosts. All countries have no more than eight office sites, each office site has six
buildings, each building has three floors, and each floor has approximately 150
hosts. Each building also has a basement where the building servers are held.
The countries are connected via frame relay T3 lines.
a) Using the private network 10.0.0.0, design an addressing scheme that can be
summarized. Apply the binary notation for the bit allocation to your diagram.
b) List the range of hosts on one of the subnets allocated to a floor in a building.
c) Indicate how summarization would work within the location.
d) Allocate a subnet to be used for VLSM to address the WAN links between the
locations.
1. Your company wants to implement a switched LAN infrastructure. This
network will include a core switch and a number of access switches.
The network will need to allow for subnetting.
You have been given the following task:
Write a short report detailing the technologies and techniques you would
recommend in the implementation of the above.
2. Write a summary explaining the need for and operation of the Spanning Tree
protocol; also include details of enhancements to improve its operation in
modern networks.
3. Explain how Layer 3 switches offer the capability of fast packet switching.

4. A campus network has only one external connection. Detail what techniques
could be used to implement high availability in the above campus
environment. Explain the operation of any techniques you would suggest.
5.

It redistribution occurs
through R2, detail a possible
problem with routing to the
external network 10.1.1.0

6. Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) offers benefits and

features over historical distance-vector routing protocols such as Routing
Information Protocol version 1 (RIPv1) and Interior Gateway Routing Protocol
(IGRP). List and critically explain the benefits.
7. With the aid of sketches/diagrams explain in some detail the operation of the
two of the most common routing protocols used in multicast networks.
8. Briefly describe the addressing scheme and conventions used in IPv6.
9. Briefly describe the operation of OSPF on multi-access networks. Hence
explain how OSPF scalability is achieved.
