Secret AnjAn

This journey explores a secret place that only a few know about. Its
a little strange because it really is a paradise. Anjan and the Skckerfjllen mountains, in Jmtland, Sweden, seduce us in the winter.
In the pale rays of the winter sun, I skin up to an incredibly
beautiful snowdrift in the form of a tremendous amphitheater.
Light pours over me from all sides, and as the temperature
increases, I take off my shell jacket. Already amazed at the
beauty of my surroundings, I discover an awe-inspiring
rime-ice sculpture as tall as a human at the north end of
the drift. Like a silent guardian, it oversees my entry into
this mysterious realm of perfect silence and sparkling purity.
It seems to ask me,, Are you really worthy?
Of course, its only made of snow and ice. But I imagine
that it nods yes.
As if by magic, the persistent wind subsides. The mornings clouds have left and visibility is clear. Behind the next
ridge, I should be able to see the vastness of the massif.
Or behind the next one? Or maybe the one after that?
As I squint into the sun, I wonder if todays definition
of wilderness is a little bit off. I have read books where some
parts of Manhattans Central Park are described as extreme
wilderness. Furthermore: Wilderness adventure, according to the Sunday newspapers in Stockholm, can be had
only a snowballs throw from the citys metro stations.
Pure absurdity. Wilderness is wild land where nature is
always ready to take a deadly stranglehold on those who do
not understand it. Wilderness should be untouched and located
far from the comforts of civilization.

Anjans heyday occurred during the late 1930s until the 1980s. Thanks to a vacation reform in the 1930s, it became financially possible for more people
to take longer vacations, which created a boom in winter tourism in the mountains. Up to the 1970s, Anjan and Skckerfjllen was a mountain area on
the verge of being as popular as more familiar areas in Sweden, such as Mount Kebnekaise, and Sylarna. During the early spring, many tourists travelled
to the mountains, often led by local guides who worked for the Anjan mountain lodge or the hotel in Kolsen.
Today, the number of tourists has slowly diminished. The large Alpine ski resorts in re and Slen attract most winter sport enthusiasts these days.
However, a growing number of alpine ski tourers are now discovering Skckerfjllens fine qualities. Perhaps one day, the area will boom again.

Lundhags has introduced an entirely new collection of warm parkas and jackets. Each is equally comfortable
and practical for days on the mountain when the snow falls horizontally, as on damp and cold winter days
in the city. Take the Temple Parka for example, a long, wind and waterproof jacket with taped seams that
provides you with maximum protection from the elements. The jacket also has many clever details such as
articulated sleeves and a small inside pocket with an opening for headphones. As with everything from
Lundhags, our parkas and jackets are built from well thought-out materials, functions and details.

A shell garment is in fact the one thing to wear if you want to have full flexibility and maximum protection
up on the mountains. Lundhags shell garments have extremely good breathability, built-in stretch and are
both wind and waterproof. Moreover, the low weight means that they are easy to take along with you in your
backpack. Use an undergarment closest to the body and combine with a thinner or thicker fleece and you will
stay warm and dry regardless of the weather.

Soft shell garments are incredibly handy and can be used as both outerwear and as insulation between layers.
Stretch material makes them soft and smooth, while allowing them to resist snow, wind and the cold. With the
details of integrated vents and practical pockets, they are versatile garments with a given place in everyones
wilderness wardrobe. Our soft-shell garments are membrane free to provide additional breathability.

Winter tourism in Anjan started in 1937, when the dynamic forest expert, adventurer and cartographer Eyvind Frlich built a picturesque mountain
lodge in Anjan after his years as a trapper in Canada and Alaska. Earlier, he had carefully examined maps for the entire Swedish mountain region
and found a solitary wilderness of the highest caliber in Anjan. The mountain station is well preserved and is a good reason to visit the area in itself.
The Skckerfjllen mountain area is composed of steep peaks up to 1 200 meters above sea level and stands in stark contrast to the surrounding, flat
landscape. The valleys are narrow. Mountain plateaus are few. So, it is either up or down. This means that the area is very suitable for alpine ski touring.

The primary use of mid layers is to provide warmth to the body. Often, mid layers are made of a thin or
medium thickness fleece material, but can also be a soft lambs wool sweater or knitted jacket. The layering
principle, consisting of a base layer, mid layer and shell garment, creates air pockets that insulate, as well as
transport moisture away from the body. If you become too warm, simply put one of these garments into
your backpack to stay flexible and comfortable.

One winter trail passes through the area. It starts in Kolsen and via the protection of Sockertoppen, travels further down into Strydalen and down
toward Lake Baksjn and the Anjan Mountain Station. Taking this route allows you to experience virtually the entire Skckerfjllen area. And if weather
permits, you can make detours from the trail up to the summits of Opmotstjakke, Sockertoppen, Makkentjakke and Lill-Anjeskutan.

For our base layers, we have chosen to use the finest Merino wool *. Wool and Merino wool in particular, has
a superior ability to keep you warm, and also removes moisture a base layers most important characteristic.
Moreover, wool is naturally antibacterial and virtually odorless. A tip! Get a thicker base layer for those
really cold days and switch to a thinner one when the temperature creeps up again. You can also try using a
thinner long sleeved base layer with a thin short-sleeved Merino Light T-shirt.
* Our Merino wool comes only from South American sheep and is guaranteed mulesing-free.

One of skiing historys most spectacular downhill ski events was held for the first time on Lill-Anjeskutan in 1947. The start of the Anjeloppet race was on
the summit, which lies 1 154 meters above sea level. The vertical drop was 750 meters to the ice of Lake Baksjn. The courses length was 4.5 km. On the
steep slopes above tree line there were high speeds, but further down, flat marshes awaited and the downhill feeling turned into more of a cross-country
skiing event. The last race was held in 1951. The best complete course time was set by ski legend Hans Hansson from the nearby village of re. He skied
down in the unprecedented time of six minutes and thirty seconds on February 13th, 1949.

Our boots are built according to the shell principle, which means
they are like an outer garment for the foot. Its because of this
that two pairs of socks, as well as an insole should complement
them. Of course, for the best comfort and function, everything

Choosing a pair of comfortable and functional socks is as important as choosing boots or ski boots. They
should be thick enough, have reinforcements in exposed areas, and be a bit thinner above the ankle for
comfort. And of course, they should keep the foot warm and definitely not cause abrasions at the seams.
We have socks for all types of activities. From hiking to ski touring.

At Lundhags, we are at least as passionate about Nordic skating as we are about hiking. Admittedly, there is
something special about gliding over an endless sheet of mirror-like ice. The speed. The freedom. And the
silence, which is only broken by the singing sound of the skates on the ice (and perhaps a jacket flapping in
the wind). When you select a skate from Lundhags, you will get high-quality, Swedish stainless steel. And
if you choose the new, totally revolutionary exa, you will get a skate that absorbs vibrations better, and is
quieter than traditional skates.
The design allows the skate to
absorb vibrations better than
traditional skates.

In recent years, Nordic skating has evolved into something of a sensation in the Nordic countries. Perhaps
this is not so surprising. Few other sports can offer the same fantastic natural experience. However, it is

also waterproof. Different version numbers, from 2.0 5.0,
were produced to describe the differences, where a higher
number has a more stable or warmer construction. The same

The Skckerfjllen area is a reindeer herding ground for Kall, a native Sami village, and one of Swedens 51 Sami villages. A particularly important area
for reindeer herding is the area south of Burvattnet in the northern Skckerfjllen, as well as the area around Ottsjarna in the western parts. As a skier,
you should respect any restrictions, as a sensitive calving period occurs in late winter. Never ski toward the reindeer, rather look for ways around, so you
disrupt them as little as possible.
