Speed & Power

Overview

High speed scan (e.g. estimated 10ms ~ 15ms for typical large PLC
applications, say, 3500 I/Os and program size of 50KSteps).

High Speed Processing

A powerful, state of the art processor in the
CPU makes it intrinsically powerful. All program
instructions are executed at a high speed of
0.028s/step thus enabling even complex
instructions to be processed very fast.
High-Speed dedicated I/O controller
The powerful processor as above (28s/step)
is well-supported by a dedicated I/O bus
controller to achieves overall fast scan cycles.
This dedicated I/O controller supplements the
main processor in I/O refresh and achieves high
speed scan (e.g. estimated 10ms ~ 15ms for
typical large PLC applications, say, 3500 I/Os
and program size of 50KSteps).

Special Register
MasterLogic-200 expands device memory and support advanced programming environment with
Index register (Z), File register (U), and Analog register (U).

File register

Analog register

As a non-volatile memory type,

data are secured even in times
of power blackout or CPU reset.

Unlike old methods, no analog commands

are required. The data after A/D
conversion can be directly accessed by
assigning an I/O address i.e. base, slot
and memory buffer.

Index register

Example of Analog Register

Base No.
Slot No.

<Old Method>

Index registers (Z) come handy to

engineers when array based access of
various devices (dynamic addressing)
is required. A device address can be
dynamically offset with an index register
value.

Memory buffer

<SoftMaster-200>

Analog Operation without Programming

Special module setup and operation is achieved just by parameter setting without any additional program.

MasterLogic-200 CPU Key functions

Modularizing scan programs:
MasterLogic-200 CPU enables modularizing the overall PLC programming into a max of 256
normal scan programs (components) which are executed once every scan cycle.
Interrupt programs:
In addition to normal scan programs, MasterLogic-200 CPU has a powerful range of handling
interrupt programs as follows:

Latch areas (data retention):

MasterLogic-200 has two latch areas a) Latch 1 and Latch 2. They are non-volatile data
retention memory areas. Various devices and address range can be configured as latch areas.
Data in those two latch areas are saved for easy restarting of PLC upon mode change or
power reset.
Latch 1 area can be cleared only by
Overall Reset: Reset dip switch (3 seconds or longer) or Overall reset command (SoftMaster200)
Clear PLC command (SoftMaster-200: latch 1 selection) in stop mode
Data Clear dip switch: instantly on/off in stop mode, which clears all the device except latch
2 area.
Latch 2 area cannot be cleared by above two actions. It can be cleared only by
Data Clear dip switch: 3 seconds or longer (in stop mode), which clears all the device.
Clear PLC command (SoftMaster-200: latch 2 selection) in stop mode which clears latch 1
area too.
Force I/O:
The I/O refresh memory can be forced manually to any specific value for maintenance and
trouble-shooting purposes. Both input and output (bit data) image area can be forced to a
value.
Real Time Clock (RTC):
MasterLogic-200 CPU has a built-in clock (RTC) which runs on battery even in case of power
failure. The PLC event history recorded by CPU stores the time stamp of the events.

17

Direct I/O operation:

In normal operation, the I/O refresh takes place once every scan i.e. input refresh at the
beginning of scan and output refresh at the end of every scan. However for any time critical
application, IORF command can be used in the program to directly read/write from/to the I/O
module during program execution.

CPU

Operation History:
MasterLogic-200 CPU stores four types of event history for monitoring, diagnostics and
trouble-shooting purposes. The events are details are stored in CPU until they are reviewed
and deleted from SoftMaster-200 software.

Skip I/O:
For any maintenance purpose, an entire I/O base including all its slots or any selective slot
(module) can be set for I/O skip through the software. The CPU ignores that I/O base or the
particular slots in it during operation.

Hot swapping:
MasterLogic-200 allows the engineer to change the module online during operation in two
ways.
By Module Change Wizard function in SoftMaster-200software.
By using M.XCHG dip switch in the CPU
Communication modules (Profibus and DeviceNet) have to be setup & configured separately
on a standby system before they can be changed online.
Online Editing:
The program can be modified online during CPU run mode by following a simple procedure

18

Remote I/O
MasterLogic-200 supports two types of remote I/O functionality, depending upon the application
a) block type remote I/O (fixed I/O)
b) base type remote I/O (flexible I/O or special module)

For simple remote I/O applications, Smart

I/O modules make it easy to implement.
Smart I/O modules are standalone DIN rail
mounted block I/Os supporting connected
to MasterLogic-200 both on Honeywell
proprietary (RNET) and also open protocols
Profibus-DP, DeviceNet, MODBUS etc.
As they support open protocols, these
Smart I/O modules can be connected to
any other manufacturers PLCs or other
controllers e.g. they serve as RTUs
Various types of digital I/O and analog I/O
modules are available in Smart I/O blocks.

Digital I/O modules

Some useful tips for selecting the right digital I/O module:
As wiring & function varies with module type, please select the right

The following graph presents the maximum relay lifespan of relay

output module.

module according to the input device.

Use an interrupt module when a high-speed response is required for

fast changing input. However, please note only one interrupt module
can be installed per CPU.

If switching frequency is high or inductive switching load is used,

the lifespan of relay output module will be reduced. Therefore, it is
recommended to use transistor output module or triac output module.

When driving an inductive load with output module, set the maximum

CPU

No. of
switching 100
(x 10,000)

50

switching ON & OFF frequency to 1 second.

When using counter or timer with DC/DC converter, surge currents

30
20

may cause a break down. Therefore, please either connect a resistor/

inductor to the load or use the module whose max. load current is high.

10

AC 125V Resistive load

DC 30V Resistive load
AC 250V Resistive load

Fuse of output module is not replaceable to prevent a damage of

external wiring when output module has a short-circuit.

The number of simultaneous ON points varies depending on input

voltage, ambient temperature. Refer to the specification of the input
module.

Use 0.3~0.75mm2 twisted pair, below 2.8mm thickness cable for

connecting to terminal block.

Be careful when choosing and using the cable since the permissible
current differs according to the insulation thickness.

Joint torque of fixed screw and terminal block screw of the module
needs to be within the range in the following table.

DEBUG mode, multiple breakpoints can be set in the program and run step by step for
critical trouble-shooting. Breakpoints also can be automatic based on a device condition.
READ / WRITE with the online PLC can be done selectively. For example, if there was
a change done only in specific area e.g. variable names or a program or I/O module
parameter, just that portion can be selectively downloaded to PLC.
Compare with PLC: The project opened in computer can be compared with the project in
online PLC for an automatic report on similarities and differences.
Configuring the use of flash memory whether the program can be backed up to flash
memory after every download or online editing
Online editing of ladder program while it is being executed.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting :

Force I/O: The I/O refresh memory can be forced manually to any specific value for
maintenance, trouble-shooting or simulation purposes. Both input and output (bit or word
data) image area can be forced to a value.
Skip I/O: For any maintenance purpose, an entire I/O base including all its slots or any
selective slot (module) can be set for I/O skip through the software. The CPU ignores
that I/O base or the particular slots during its operation.

Force I/O

Module exchange wizard: A software wizard guides the engineer through the steps
involved in exchanging a module safely during CPU run mode. Errors detected, if any
are displayed to the user.
In addition to the wizard, the engineer can also exchange the module (hot-swapping) by
setting the M-XCHG dip switch in CPU to ON.

Skip I/O

User-defined Event Recording (SOE): Any bit data device (digital I/O, memory flags
etc) can be configured for event recording when the device condition turns on (rising) or
off (falling) or any change of state. SoftMaster-200 allows an event list to be configured
and managed with add/edit and delete functions. Each event can be prioritized into three
categories: a) alarm message b) warning message c) information
The events can be recorded at millisecond resolution. The CPU also maintains the event
history in its memory.

Module exchange wizard

This functionality enables the engineer to program the PLC for Sequential Event
Recording (SER) or Sequence of Events (SOE) functionality.
Program verification (logic & syntax errors, duplicate coil checks, cross-references etc)

User-defined event

Monitoring:
Ladder monitor for online status of program execution. Force I/O setting can also be
done from here directly.

Variable Monitoring Related devices (I/O addresses and other data memory) of any
category (e.g. P, M, F, D, R) in any data type (e.g. BIT, WORD, DWORD, REAL) can
be grouped and monitored together in a single window for context sensitive troubleshooting.

Ladder Monitor

Software

System Monitoring This tool empowers the PLC support engineer to connect to
any PLC and monitor the overall system status in a single window i.e. Base, slot and
I/O module configuration, device status of I/O channels etc. Each I/O base can be
individually traversed back and forth for monitoring.

System Monitor

These variables are not restricted to one PLC but can be spread across multiple PLCs.
Variable Monitor

Special Module Monitoring Special modules such as Analog Input/Output modules,

High Speed Counter (HSC) modules are monitored through this tool.
Trend Monitoring Various analog and digital devices (data type such as BIT, WORD,
DWORD, REAL etc) from I/O and other memory devices can be trended together on
a single window for context sensitive trouble-shooting. Sampling speed, X and Y-axis
range (time and data value) also can be adjusted to the needs.

Special Module Monitor

Trace Device data (all I/O and other data memory areas) can be sampled & traced
automatically for a specific duration when some other device condition becomes true.
