An original idea from Jaime G.

INTRODUCTION:
The following presentation of this invention by Jaime G. Sada is aimed at
manufacturers of manned as well as Remotely Piloted (RPAS) gyrocopters.
The invention represents a way to provide gyrocopters with a practical and very
economical device for vertical jump take off. No runways, no expensive and
complex helicopter rotor head devices, no on-board extra power needed only

for takeoff (with the associated dead weight and expense). A (portable)
launching base does the job.
Intellectual Property Rights will be licensed to those interested by Jaime G. Sada.

in development since La Ciervas C.30

the extra power requirements needed
only for takeoff, added manufacturing
and operational costs and added weight
make them un-competitive.

BACKGROUND:
After the experience gained by Mr Sada by developing and testing a fixed
wing HTOL RPAS for both civilian and military operations, the need for
runways to support the operations was found to be a critical economical and
practical factor, thus leading to the patenting and development of an HybridVTOL RPAS, which combines an airplane and a quad-rotor.
An evaluation of the regulations, acquisition/operational costs, and

performance of RPAS vs other flying platforms for agricultural missions, urban

transport, and urban surveillance operations (comparing Fixed wing aircraft vs
Gyrocopters vs Helicopters) lead to the conclusion that the gyrocopter was the
safest and most cost effective platform for such tasks, but only if it had

economical & practical Jump Take Off (JTO) capabilities.

FILED PATENT ABSTRACT:

A system suitable for deployment of a gyrocopter from reduced spaces
comprising a Ground Based Power Assisted Takeoff System to allow the
gyrocopter to takeoff vertically, without the need of a costly, heavy,
maintenance intensive rotor pitch blade control system and costly and heavy

extra on-board power.

To deploy the gyrocopter (8) from a

defined takeoff area (1), a ground based

power source (2 & 5) is coupled to the
gyrocopter pre-rotator system, while a set
of restraining systems (3 & 4) prevents
displacements of the gyrocopter airframe
due to torque and lift.

Once the gyrocopters rotor jump takeoff and propeller takeoff RPMs are achieved, a
release mechanism (6) is actuated to free the gyrocopter from the restraining systems
(4) and the ground based power source (5), resulting in a vertical jump takeoff.

General Arrangement
Takeoff System: (the invention)
1. Takeoff base
2. Ground engine
3. Lateral restraining system

4. Vertical restraining system

5. Base Power Output (P.O.)
6. Release mechanism for 4
7. Remote control for 2 & 6
Suitable gyrocopter:

8. Fixed pitch & pre-rotator

equipped rotor head gyrocopter

Pre-rotator requirements / modifications:

9. Base P.O. to gyrocopter pre-rotator transmission
10.Typical pre-rotator R.H. gears and transmission
11.Gear box interconnecting 9 & 10 transmissions

Pre-rotator modification:
The use of two transmissions
allows for dual pre-rotator use:
By selecting power from the
gyro engine, or by selecting

power from the takeoff base

engine.
By this mean, the standard take
off capability provided by the
typical gyros engine powered
pre-rotator is retained.
