Narrative Report
This semester we were able to experience how to be in actual work setting
as student nurses on duty at the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Hospital and
Brgy. Magsaysay community which covered 192 hours of duty and a total of
eight rotation covering 3 days/week 8 hours/day of duties for the whole
semester.
The group were tasked to do our duties under the supervision of Mrs. Beulah
Joy K. Damasco (RN.,MAN) our assigned Clinical Instructor. This training had
given us the chance to apply the theories and skills that weve learned from
the school and helped us to acquire more knowledge and skills through
performing it in real situation.
During our first day of exposure in Brgy. Magsaysay we were given tasks to
conduct surveys to each Baraggay households so we can determine what are
the main concerns and problems of the community. We then learned that
there main concerns are the lack of water supply in their area. We also
learned that it is helpful to provide them health teachings specially that they
are in a remote area where medical facilities are distance away. Together
with the other group we provided health teachings such as how to make
herbal remedy ointment (Acapulco) to relieve mild skin diseases and we also
thought them how to make a homemade oresol that can be used to relieve
dehydration from diarrhea. During the health teachings we realized how the
people of Baraggay Magsaysay cooperated very well and were very eager to
learn and realizing that it made us student nurses and our clinical instructors
feel accomplished because our goal was met and we are glad to be able to
help them.
Our second rotation took place at the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Hospital
OB Ward. Our first day at the area was very exciting and at the same time
nervous as first timers. We were first introduced to the Staffs whom we are
very pleased to get to know with and after that that weve been oriented on
how the place works and were able to familiarize the area. Our point CI then
assigned us our designated Postpartum and ante partum patients so we can
start our duties as student nurses promptly and properly. We started by
introducing ourselves tour patients as means of establishing rapport and
continued to taking and monitoring of their vital signs including the
newborns. With the help of our CI we are also able to learn how to properly
plot and document on the patients chart as well as reading the doctors order.

We were also given opportunity to administer medications and do drug study
so we are more knowledgeable about the medications given to our patients.
We have performed certain procedures such as removing catheter, wound
dressing, IV removal, regulating IV, and documenting Intake and Output of
our patient. It is also very important for us to assess our patient so we can
determine what specific care the patient needs. Overall we have great
learning and experiences that helped us enhance our skills that we can apply
to our patients in a more effective ways as student nurses.
Our third exposure took place at the Delivery Room of BPMH. Excitement and
anxiousness are the mere words that could describe our feelings on our first
day of duty on that area, because we are fully aware that for the first time
we are going to witness a Mother giving birth to a child. We are also excited
to gain our first case in the delivery room. Inside the delivery room we are
given the chance to Handle, Assist, and do Chord Care as well as monitoring
of Vital signs and Fetal hear Tone. We became more familiarize of the
equipments and instruments used in the area .We then came to a realization
that giving birth is not easy and that we student nurses also have the role of
providing comfort to our patient to lessen and alleviate their discomfort and
pain. We are also proud that we are able to administer Vit. K to our newborn
patients as part of our Immediate Newborn Care. Indeed Delivery Room duty
is a great learning experience.
