3.3 THOMSON REUTERS HOSTED

This is the solution for sites with less than 11 positions. This is
fully hosted by Thomson Reuters and no infrastructure is
required on the client site apart from an ISP connection.
The desktop accesses Streaming services and Web services
(including the Time Series service) over the Internet. Software
updates are delivered directly to the desktop from the Update
Service.
Note: a full installation of the Thomson Reuters
Eikon desktop software is required. The same
package is installed no matter which
deployment model is used.

Internet Delivery will be mandatory for clients with 10 or

less positions of Thomson Reuters Eikon. This change will
result in significant cost savings for our smaller client sites
compared to the use of private lines, while also delivering
sizeable savings for Thomson Reuters.
Private delivery using MPLS may be possible but this will not be
generally available. There are a very small number of standard
exceptions where Thomson Reuters will continue to offer
subsidized delivery via private lines:

3.4 THOMSON REUTERS MANAGED

This is suitable for clients with more than 10 positions that
dont require in-house data.

Thomson Reuters Platform

Two types of edge devices will be deployed onsite:.

x

The Streaming Proxy is the datafeed providing news

headlines and real-time streaming data to the desktop.
This device sources data from the nearest IDN Point of
Presence with the option of using the DVB Satellite service
(DVBu).

ADS

The Time Series Proxy caches data from the Time Series
Service to give faster retrieval to the desktop and reduce
bandwidth requirements to the data centre.
This is an off the shelf proxy server supplied by Blue Coat
(Model: Proxy SG 510 or Proxy SG 600).

The current business rules state that a Time Series Proxy will
be required for every site with over 10 positions. Therefore it
is likely that every Thomson Reuters managed site will have a
Time Series Proxy.

Note: The Streaming Proxy will also need a connection to

the Thomson Reuters Eikon Streaming Service for user
permissioning.

This box will also run the Update Proxy software which is
used for software downloads. This provides a local software
cache to prevent multiple downloads of software and will be
totally managed by Thomson Reuters.

One or more Time Series Proxies - the current business

rules state that a Time Series Proxy is required on Customer
managed sites with more than 10 positions. As with the
Thomson Reuters managed model, this device will be owned

Private Delivery

The Thomson Reuters Eikon desktop will source real-time

streaming data from the local Market Data System.
However, in Eikon 3.0, the desktop also has a secondary
connection to the central Streaming Service. This is used to
deliver Central Alerts, Research News, Tullett Prebon feed and
Synthetic Index.

The Customer Managed model will be used for all existing

RMDS clients, unless the customer requests otherwise.
The client must have RMDS 6 (MDH 6.4.0 E3 and P2PS 6.3, or
higher) and DACS 6. If the client wants to use RFA/RWF they
need P2PS 6.4.0 E5.

An Update Proxy - Customer Managed sites must have their own Update Proxy which they are responsible for. This is a licensed
software component installed on their own hardware that enables them to control when updates to the Thomson Reuters Eikon
desktop are made.

A Configuration Proxy - this consists of an XML document structure that can be hosted on one of the clients internal Web
Servers. It enables them to configure remotely the site-specific parameters of the Thomson Reuters Eikon desktops.

3.6 PRIVATE DELIVERY VIA MPLS

Two MPLS service packages have been defined to support the Thomson Reuters Eikon products. For clients using Savvis, please refer
to the Thomson Reuters Eikon Networking Guide.

THOMSON REUTERS PLATFORM WITHOUT REALTIME DATA

This will be used in the following deployment scenarios:
x

Thomson Reuters Managed where the Streaming Proxy receives its real-time data from the nearest IDN Point of Presence
(with or without DVBu). The Streaming Proxy will only require a low speed connection to the Streaming Service for user
permissioning.

Customer Managed where the Thomson Reuters Eikon Desktop retrieves real-time data from the RMDS infrastructure.

THOMSON REUTERS PLATFORM WITH REALTIME DATA

This will be used in the following deployment scenarios:
x

Thomson Reuters Hosted using Private delivery. However, as stated previously this will not be generally available.

Thomson Reuters Managed (Platform fed) where the Streaming Proxy has no direct IDN connection and retrieves all its
real-time data from the Streaming Service. This option is not currently available.

DUAL ROUTING
In order to reduce comms costs, a dual routing capability has been agreed with BT. The new Thomson Reuters Eikon service packs
provide access to the Thomson Reuters Platform, but also provide access to the services used by existing products.
This reduces the number of orders required and avoids the need for dual comms connections during the parallel running period. The
existing service packages simply need to be removed from the set and the appropriate Thomson Reuters Platform service package
added, via the standard Amend process.
For full details of the legacy products
and service packages that can be
migrated this way, please refer to
the Thomson Reuters Eikon Technical
Migration Guide on the Product A-Z
and TON 10810.

BANDWIDTH SIZING
The bandwidth sizing tool has been updated to include bandwidth calculations for Thomson Reuters Eikon.

3.8 SITE AFFINITY

A user is always permanently associated with a specific Thomson Reuters datacentre. This will normally be the data centre closest to
the user's physical place of work (based on their office address).
When users start Thomson Reuters Eikon they are directed to a random site. Then, after authentication, users are re-directed to
their home site. The URLs that provide the location of the various Thomson Reuters Eikon services are known as the Service Access
Points (SAPs) and are downloaded to the user's Desktop when they authenticate.
The URL definition is: Full Qualified Domain Name = <DataCenter>.<Service>.<FamilyName>.<WAN>[/<SubService>]
