Une structure rsultative est une construction syntaxique dans laquelle la langue anglaise
indique dabord les modalits (cause/moyen/manire) dune action ou dun phnomne, puis
le rsultat produit ou escompt. Ce rsultat est indiqu par un adjectif, un groupe
prpositionnel, un adverbe ou un syntagme nominal.

Les structures rsultatives peuvent poser des problmes de comprhension dune part et de
traduction dautre part.
1. Problmes de comprhension :
1.1. Confusion entre adjectif marquant le rsultat et ladjectif pithte
-The dog licked the clean plate The dog licked the plate clean
-They saw him asleep They rocked him asleep
1.2. Reconnatre un groupe prpositionnel qui marque un rsultat
-They drank under the table they drank themselves under the table.
-He groped his way into the room He groped his way into the room
-They encouraged me out of kindness they coaxed me out of it.
1.3. Souvent, cette structure se rencontre avec des verbes intransitifs, et cela peut donc
surprendre dans les cas o celui-ci est transitif. Dans ce cas, il se trouve souvent
suivi dun complment inhabituel comme un pronom rflchi.
