CHAPTER III

Methodology
This chapter presents the research design and the methods in sampling, research
instrument preparation, data gathering, and data analysis.
Research Design
The researcher will use the descriptive method in this study. This method as stated by
Sevilla et. Al (1998) involved gathering scientific information and determination of how an
existing phenomenon affects conditions. In this case, the reliability of electronic payments as
perceived by the personnel of University of San Agustin, is the focus of the study.
Best (1998) further asserted that descriptive method was an appropriate research design
more so, if the subject of any class vary among themselves and one was interested in knowing he
extent to which different conditions obtain among these subjects.
Respondent of the Study
The population of this study will include all personnel of University of San Agustin. They
will be stratified or grouped according to different departments both academic and nonacademic. The respondents or sample from the study will be determined using the Slovins
formula.

The Research Instrument (Data Gathering Instrument)

The data used in this study will be gathered through the use of a questionnaire designed
to determine the reliability of electronic payments as perceived by University of San Agustin
personnel. The questionnaire is composed of two parts. Part I will deal with personal data such as
name, age, sex, average monthly income and type of personnel. Part II will include items or
questions divided into different parts namely: Security, Trust, Benefit and Convenience which
will be answered by Most Reliable (1), Reliable (2), Moderately Reliable (3), Less Reliable (4),
and Not Reliable (5).
The questionnaire will be subjected to validation by the teacher and suggestions will be
incorporated in the final questionnaire. This will then be reproduced and administered to the
respondents
Data Collection Techniques
The research instrument will be distributed to the respondents by the researchers. The
personnel will be given thirty minutes to answer the research instrument. Then the questionnaire
will be collected and the data collected will be classified, organized and analysed through
presentation of tables that corresponds to the problem, areas, and detailed information presented
in the study.
Data Analysis Plan
The data gathered will be subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistics. The
descriptive statistics will include the mean ranks computed by adding the ranks given by the
respondents to each benefit and dividing the total by the number of respondents.
The inferential statistic to be used will be Spearmans Rank Difference Correlation
(Pagoso and Montaa, 1985) with the following formula
Where: D=Difference in Ranks
d=Sample Size
