WordReview 1 Single Review

Choose general information

Different lists have different numbers of words. It is recommended that you start with
the short ones. The Barrons should be the last ones.
You can specify the range of words within the maximum length of the list. This is
useful when you start to learn a long list. You can divide the long list into short parts:
some tens words per day or some hundreds per week. Even after mastering all
words, you cannot finish reviewing the whole list of 3-4000 words without taking a
break.
It is believed that it is much easier to learn vocabulary with audio. The audio files
provided with this software are taken from the WordHacker Golden Edition v4.04. If
you get this audio folder in zip format, simply unzip/extract it to the same folder with
the executable files WordReview 1 and 2. If you have other source of audio, use the
Browse button to locate the folder containing audio files. Note that the audio folder
should contain subfolders, each of which contains all files having same starting
alphabet letter.
Use UnMaster All button if you want to restart learning all words in the list.

Review words
First screen: Click Next when you are ready. Click Exit (or press Esc) whenever you
want to end.

For each word, the first click to Next will show the word, its phonetics and audio of
pronunciation but meaning (Dont be surprised if sometimes there is no phonetics
since we have not finished for all the lists). This is your time to recall this word.

The second click to Next will show the meaning as well. You can click Replay (lower
left of the screen) to hear the audio again. If you feel confident with this word, click
Master (left to Next) this word will not be shown again until you UnMaster All this
list.

WordReview 2 Group Review

While WordReview 1 is used for a person to review alone, the WordReview 2 can
help for reviewing in group where members can take turns to respond to the shown
words. You can build the list of group members and choose members to take part in
todays review.

Choose group members

The 0, 5, 10 are late time of that person. An absent member will not take part in the
review of that day. This software was first developed for a USGuide self-studying
class so that a member can be fined for either being late or absent. During reviewing,
not being able to answer each word can also be fined. The money could be used for
class parties.

Set time for each word

By clicking the Set TimeOut button. This time, in seconds, is the time for the member
with the shown name to recall the meaning of the word. After this period of time, the
explanation of the word will be shown automatically.

Set method to choose a member to answer: Random vs. Round

There are two ways to pick a name from the member list for the next word.
Random: the name is randomly chosen. It is more fun since you do not know when
will be your turn.
Round: the name is chosen in the order appearing in the list. This might be boring
since after one round, you know the order and when will be your turn.
Example: There are three names in the list A, B and C and six words. The Round
method will give the order of ABCABC. However the Random can give any possibility
of all permutations (ACBBAC, AABCAC ) and one person might have to answer
more words than the others.

Review words with group

The word appearance, meaning and audio pronunciation are the same to
WordReview 1.
The members name will be shown and time will be counted down to 0.

Click Yes if the majority feel confident with this word.

After reviewing all words, you can save the result (reviewed words, who can or
cannot remember which words, ) for your records.
