TheMacBookPro(sometimesabbreviatedMBP[1])isalineofMacintosh
portablecomputersintroducedinJanuary2006byAppleInc.,andnowinitsthird
generation.ReplacingthePowerBookG4,theMacBookProwasthesecond
model,aftertheiMac,tobeannouncedintheAppleInteltransition.Itisalsothe
highendmodeloftheMacBookfamilyandiscurrentlyproducedwith13and
15inchscreens,whilea17inchversionwasalsoavailableinthepast.

MacBookPro

ThefirstgenerationMacBookProappearedexternallysimilartothePowerBook
G4,butusedtheIntelCoreprocessorsinsteadofPowerPCG4chips.The15inch
modelwasreleasedinJanuary2006,a17inchmodelinApril,bothofwhich
receivedseveralupdatesandCore2Duoprocessorslaterintheyear.
Thesecondmodel,knownasthe"unibody"model,hasamoretapereddesignand
acasingmadefromasingleblockofaluminum.ItdebutedinOctober2008asthe
15inchMacBookProandthe13inchaluminumunibodyMacBook.The
followingJanuarybroughtthedesigntothe17inchmodel,alongwiththebuiltin
batterythatjoinedtherestoftheMacBookProlineinJune,includingthe13inch
modelwhichAppleabsorbedintotheMacBookProline.Subsequentupdates
broughtupgradedIntelCorei5andi7processorsandintroducedIntel's
Thunderbolttechnology.
ApplereleasedthethirdgenerationofMacBookProinJune2012witha15inch
screen.Atthesametime,slightlyupdatedversionsofthepreviousgeneration13
and15inchunibodymodelswereannouncedandsoldinparallel,andthe17inch
variantwasdiscontinued.Whiledimensionallysmallerthanitspredecessor,the
similarlystyledthirdgenerationmodelretainedaunibodydesign.Themost
substantialdifferencesinthethirdgenerationMacBookProarethefittingofa
significantlyhigherresolutionRetinadisplay,theeliminationoftheopticaldrive,
andreplacementofharddiskdriveswithsolidstatedrives.A13inchthird
generationMacBookProwasreleasedinOctober2012.

Updates
ApplerefreshedtheentireMacBookProlineonOctober24,2006,toincludeIntelCore2Duoprocessors.[9]Memorycapacitywas
doubledforeachmodel,to1GBonthelowend15inchand2GBforthehighend15and17inchmodels.[9]FireWire800was
addedtothe15inchmodels.Harddrivecapacitywasincreased,althoughvideocardoptionsstayedthesame.[9]TheMacBookPro
linereceivedasecondupdateonJune5,2007withnewNvidiaGeforce8600MGTvideocardsandfasterprocessoroptions.[12][13]

anedgetoedgereflectiveglassfinish,whileanantiglarematteoptionisavailableinthe15and17inchmodelsinwhichtheglass
panelisremoved.[33]Thetrackpadhasalsobeenenlarged,givingmoreroomforscrollingandmultitouchgestures.[33]Whenthe
linewasupdatedinApril2010,inertialscrollingwasadded,makingthescrollingexperiencemuchlikethatoftheiPhoneand
iPad.[34][35][36]Theentiretouchpadisusableandactsasaclickablebutton.[33]Thekeys,stillbacklit,arenowthatofApple'snow

DuringtheMacWorldExpokeynoteonJanuary6,2009,PhilSchillerannounceda17inch
MacBookProwithunibodyconstruction.Thisversiondivergedfromits15inchsiblingwith
anantiglare"matte"screenoption(withtheglossyfinishstandard)andanonuserremovable
lithiumpolymerbattery.[37]Appleaffirmedthebattery'sdesignwasunlikeanyexisting
notebookbattery.Insteadoftraditionalroundcellsinsidethecasing,thelithiumionpolymer
batteriesareshapedandfittedintoeachlaptopwithoutwastingspace.Adaptivecharging
extendsbatterylife,whichusesachiptooptimizethechargeflowtoreducewearandtear.[37]
Comparedtothepreviousiteration,batterylifeforthe17"versionisquotedateighthours,

Somereviewerspraisedthenewlaptop'scompactsizeforitsperformance,[30]thequalityofthescreen,andsturdyunibodybuild,[30]
whichallowedeasierupgradingofinternalcomponentsascomparedtotheoriginalmodels.[30]Somereviewersalsonotedthatthe
newMacBookProranmorequietlyandatcoolertemperatures.[30]However,otherscriticizedtheamountofheatgeneratedbythe

Reviewerslamentedthelossofamattescreenoptionforthe2008unibodyMacBookPro,notingthereflectivenessofthescreenin
sunlight,evenwhenitsbrightnesswasturnedallthewayup.[30]CNET'sDanAckermancommentedofthemid2009models,
