February 9, 2014 by Shantha Leave a Comment
Sihi means sweet in Kannada. Sihi Kootu is a sweet curry served with plain Rice. We
were served this Kootu in Kalasa, Chikkamagalur district in one of our friends house.
Cuisine: South Karnataka
Time Required: 40 Minutes
Ingredients:
7 8 Beans, Stringed and chopped into inch pieces
1 Carrot Peeled and Diced
1 Cup Peeled and Diced Seemebadanekayi (Coyote)
1 Cup Peeled and Diced Sweet Pumpkin
1 Potato Peeled and Diced
1 Cup Thogaribele (Red Gram Split)
Cup Groundnuts
1 2 tbsp Jaggery
Salt to taste
Seasoning:
2tbsp Oil
1tsp Mustard Seeds
tsp Hing / Asafoetida
Few Curry leaves
1 broken Red Chili
Method:
Cook Togaribele and Groundnuts in the cooker. Cook the vegetables separately until
soft.
Roast all the ingredients for the paste except for Coconut.
If the Kootu is too thick, add a cup of water. Add Salt and Jaggery. Mix well and let the
Huli come to a boil.
Heat Oil separately and add Mustard Seeds, when they splutter, add Turmeric Powder,
Hing, Curry leaves, and Red Chili. Pour this over the Kootu and mix well.
