Teaching
Lectures and tutorials serve as the principal teaching method. Tutorials serve as an opportunity to reflect
on the lecture material and generally assist the learning process through discussion and groupwork. The
teaching, learning and assessment strategies will utilise a range of real-life case studies and simulated
exercises (audit).
Where practical, industrialists will be involved in the teaching and learning strategy and may be present for
oral presentations.
The dissertation element offers a further opportunity for you to apply your knowledge and skills in a less
structured environment.
Taught modules which are delivered during semester 1 will adopt the conventional pattern of lecture and
seminar to instil a learning framework and will use examinations, and course-work for assessing student
performance. Modules taught during semester 2 will tend to adopt a more problem-based learning
approach to teaching, learning and assessment.

Assessment
Assessment strategy consists of:
Examinations involving discursive essay topics, problem case studies, or a combination
Continuous assessment through assignments, and small scale problem solving
Group and individual project work, including elements of the dissertation
Personal portfolio development through log-books
