POINTE CAPITAL MANAGEMENTS JAMES L. CARROLL TO PRESENT AT
THE 2015 MAPERS SPRING CONFERENCE GROSSE POINTE FARMS, MI (January, 2015) Pointe Capital Managements Jim Carroll, CFA has been selected by the Michigan Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems (MAPERS) to present at the 2015 Spring Conference on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Soaring Eagle Resort in Mt. Pleasant. During the presentation, The Dawn of A New Era for North American Energy: Fact, Fiction and the Investment Case for Master Limited Partnerships in Michigan Municipal Pension Funds, Jim will discuss the causes, results and opportunities in the US energy sector as well as the benefit of MLP investing for Municipal Pension Funds. Master Limited Partnerships has been one of the best performing asset classes in the market during the past 10 years. Over 130 companies now comprise this space, with a market capitalization of over $650 billion, making the asset class comparable to the REIT Industry in size. Many institutional investors are unaware of the excellent historical returns and low correlation to commodities and other asset classes, as MLPs remain a relatively unknown and misunderstood segment and of the global capital markets. Despite lower oil prices, the investment case for MLP investing remains strong as the North American energy infrastructure build out requires many billions of dollars in additional investment. MLPs provide very attractive current yields, consistent dividend growth and offer the opportunity for price appreciation. Jim Carroll, CFA is Managing Director of Pointe Capital Management and is responsible for portfolio management, security selection, and developing Pointe Capital Managements institutional practice. Jim co-manages the PCM All-Cap Equity Strategy and is Advisor to the MLP Income and Growth Strategy. Prior to joining the PCM team, Jim spent 17 years with Loomis Sayles as a Vice President and Equity Portfolio Manager where he co-managed the $6 billion large-cap value strategy. This fund achieved first quartile performance versus its peer group for the one, three, five and ten year periods. Mr. Carroll also managed a long only energy fund and was a co-manager of the Loomis Sayles Energy Hedge Fund. Both of these energy centric funds achieved well above benchmark returns when Jim was the active manager. In addition, he spent 15 years with Paine Webber / Rotan Mosle as a Managing Director and Senior Energy Research Team Leader and Analyst. Most notably, Jim was selected as an Institutional Investor All-American team member from 1984-1996, and Ranked #1 Energy Service Analyst in the U.S. from 1986-1996. Jim has been widely quoted on a variety of energy related securities and topics in numerous national publications, including the Wall Street Journal and Barrons. Earlier in his career, Jim spent five years with National Bank of Detroit as an Assistant Vice President and Equity Portfolio Manager. Jim has an MBA from Wayne State University with a concentration in Corporate Finance and a B.S. from Wayne State University with a concentration in Economics.
